New Volunteers with the Trust are required to complete a one day induction (the next date is Tuesday 26th July 2016 Do you have a few hours to spare on a Monday afternoon once or twice each month? The Voluntary Services Department runs a baking group for older people who have dementia. The group helps the participants to socialise and make some simple, tasty recipes. The group usually finishes with refreshments and a quiz or game. Due to the popularity of our existing baking group we are hoping to recruit volunteers to start a new group. We are looking for volunteers who would be happy to plan recipes and activities and lead the group, as well as volunteers who can assist the participants with one to one support in following the recipes. Tasks: Facilitator –
  • Leading the group in demonstrating a simple recipe
  • Planning recipes and providing a shopping list
  • Ensure that participants have signed in and paid subs Helper –
  • providing assistance to participants in following a simple recipe All Volunteers -
  • Cleaning the kitchen and equipment after the group
  • Providing participants with refreshments
  • Helping participants on and off volunteer transport and escorting them in to the building
  • Chatting the participants/ reminiscing and making them feel welcome
We need volunteers who enjoy cooking and baking, but importantly they need to be friendly and outgoing to ensure that the particpants have an enjoyable experience. Facilitators should be confident to stand at the front and lead the group through a simple recipe at each session, such as fairy buns, sausage rolls etc. This role may suit someone who is looking to gain experience in teaching, adult education, facilitating or health care. Helpers will be essential In supporting the facilitator as the group participants have memory impairments and may not be able to carry out tasks and follow the recipes without assistance. We are looking for someone who is able to commit to a minimum of six months in this role

Volunteers are covered by Insurance Volunteers will be given an Induction Travel expenses will be reimbursed Training will be given Location is on a bus route Free parking is available on site or near to location Disabled access/toilet facilities available Volunteers for this group will need to undertake a one day basic food hygiene certificate in addition to the NHS induction
