Parkside is seeking a Trustee who wants to make a genuine contribution to a valued local charity. Our aim is to provide support services for both children and adults with learning disabilities.

What will you be doing?

At Parkside we are keen that our voluntary board of Trustees bring with them a variety of skills and expertise that will enable Parkside to develop in a professional and sustainable way, ensuring all stakeholders are offered, where possible, the services and opportunities they require.

We need support in financial matters and how best to strategically look at our finances in the coming years. We have a diverse board of professional trustees who are keen to make sure the charity remains financially sound. The board meetings annual audits and quality control audits all form part of the need to make sure the charity meets its objectives.

What are we looking for?

Business and financial experience would be an advantage but primarily understanding and empathy of and with the situation of the vulnerable people we support. We want all our Trustees to feel part of our organisation and through this we know they will genuinely gain fulfillment. We have a great group of people we support and as a Trustee you will soon really care about them.

We know we have all the compassion and support for our Service Users but we also need all the other skills to make us even better!

Becoming a trustee does require a commitment of time and energy, but it is rewarding to be able to apply your skills and knowledge to the development of services, for Parkside’s many vulnerable clients.

What difference will you make?

We are a small charity turnover under 1 million but we have a wide range of services that offer some 160 people with a learning disability a range of activities and support. Having a small team we do need support in areas where we do not employ fully qualified personnel. With financial challenges we are always looking at how we can best work. We need to make sure how to manage staff expectations and more professional help would be a real addition to our current board. We are always striving to be better for all our members.

What’s in it for the volunteer?

If you are interested in equality and social inclusion then work with us. We feel passionately that those with a learning disability deserve to be heard and supported. Many young people with a learning disability are overlooked for jobs in a work place environment. We have developed work experience schemes and can demonstrate how outdated this is, we want people that share these values and will be part of the change. If you want to make a difference visit one of our sessions to see what you could do!.

Before you apply

All Trustee are asked to complete an application form when they know they want to join, initially a CV will be required. Anyone can arrange a visit before they decide to apply if they so wish.
