We seek a Treasurer - will also be a Trustee. Because the charity’s activities are undertaken by volunteers - the turnover is normally < £20K/year. CHI works to raise the quality of CF healthcare in Central & Eastern Europe

What will you be doing?

The treasurer will be a qualified accountant, manage the accounts and will supervise a volunteer bookkeeper. He or she will ensure annual accounts are prepared, examined and delivered to Companies House and required financial data is submitted to the Charity Commission. It may be necessary to claim Gift Aid on donations from HMRC. The treasurer will ensure that the charity complies with Charity Commission law and guidance in its financial affairs. The Treasurer will work at home, probably 1-2 hours per week. Board meetings take place using Zoom and face to face occasionally, usually in Winchester. The treasurer will be supporting the charity’s efforts to improve the quality of cystic fibrosis healthcare in several countries of Central and Eastern Europe - from Russia and Ukraine to Bulgaria, Greece and Moldova plus others. See our website for more details

What are we looking for?

Ideally an experienced accountant with previous experience of the charity sector, familiar with financial reporting procedures. Willing to support colleagues responsible for fundraising and prepared to advise on how donations can be made to CHI, either by legacy, online or by standing order.

What difference will you make?

Whilst CHI’s programme of projects is not expensive, thanks to all medical personnel in the CF multidisciplinary team giving their services for free, there are costs. On an away visit, say, to Riga in Latvia, there are the costs of flights/ travel, accommodation and subsistence and if, say, a small Lithuanian CF team comes to UK, say to the Royal Brompton Hospital for training/ CPD, there are similar costs - travel, accommodation etc - so keeping the charity solvent, and with adequate reserves, is vital.

What’s in it for the volunteer?

In some of our partner countries, few patients with CF reach adulthood - so most of our focus is on children - what can be more rewarding than helping children remain healthy or, if sick, to help them get well?

The parents of a CF child have very little respite from the care of the child, probably giving the child physiotherapy to keep the lungs clear 2-3 times a day - our visits to their countries cheer them up and they are glad to welcome ’Brit expertise" given with a smile!
