An opportunity to make a difference to the children of Andover CE Primary SchoolWhat will you be doing?We are looking for school governors to add skills to our existing governing body.Our Governing Body is led by a very experienced governor who was appointed in July 2021. We have a mix of governors who come from a range of disciplines and sectors. All of those people add a richness to the debate and leadership.We need you to
  • Be able to attend meetings at school - usually these are 6-8pm monthly
  • Read all the paperwork ahead of meetings so you are prepared with questions
  • Visit school during the day - ideally once per term, but even once or twice per year would help. We believe you only know a school when you see the children
  • Attend governor training to support you in doing your role.
Don’t worry if you have no experience in being a governor. This is a not a problem - willingness to learn and commit time are your most attractive attributes!What are we looking for?We don’t need you to have school governor experience. But we would like some commercial experience as this does bring a richness to the governing body.Ideally we are looking for somebody who has some understanding of property - facilities management, architecture, listed buildings, surveying - anything like that would be very helpful. It isn’t essential, but it is certainly a very attractive skillset.But the biggest quality is patience and time. It is a time consuming role, and it needs someone who is prepared to give the time to make it work.What difference will you make?Governors are responsible for the strategic leadership of the school. We hold the Headteacher to account by monitory and evaluating and ensuring the school meets their targets. We are the voice of the children. It is our job to make sure we champion every child and they all make progress.We want a strong good school. Governors are integral part of ensuring we achieve that - and sustain it.Causes
