Would you like the chance to have a direct, hands-on role in helping a young person at a time of crisis? Volunteer hosts for the SASH Nightstop scheme offer their spare room, an evening meal and breakfast the following day to young people aged 16-24 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. They ensure that at a time of crisis, young people are kept safe at night and are supported when facing homelessness. Being a Nightstop host is a very flexible way of volunteering. Young people will arrive in the evening at a time that suits you, and you can choose when to be available for hosting and how many nights you are available for. All the young people we place are police-checked and fully risk-assessed. Being placed with a Nightstop host gives local agencies time to sort out a more permanent solution to the young person’s housing needs.

No formal skills or qualifications are required. However, most of the young people requiring the Nightstop service will be vulnerable and experiencing a time of crisis. SASH Nightstop hosts need to be over 25 years old. This is because some of the young people we place will be up to 24 years old. Volunteers must have a spare room. The role is open to all East Riding postcodes.

SASH is based in the centre of York. However, the volunteering opportunities are all home based including throughout the East Riding.
