Description Role: Retail Unit Assistant Accountable to: Head of Facilities Responsible to: Retail Unit Managers Overall Objective: To assist in the day to day running of our retail unit to ensure the retail service contributes to the overall fundraising of Hospice at Home West Cumbria Location: Windermere House, Workington Hours: Hours to be agreed with Unit Manager The Unit is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am-2pm. This is a voluntary position where no pay will be given. Travel expenses can be refunded and out of pocket expenses as agreed with the Unit Managers. Roles are subject to a 1 month trial. Key Responsibilities: Customer Service: - Greeting donors and accepting their donations in a polite and friendly manner. - Ensure donors have opportunity to gift aid donations and assist completion of relevant forms - Helping donors with any enquiries they may have - Answer telephone calls in a polite and friendly manner and communicate any messages to the right department - Maintain good relationships with our neighbours at Windermere House Sorting: - Sort donations and identify items that are fit for sale in our shops - Identify any items which are suitable for sale to the rag merchant - Identify any items which may be suitable for sale via ebay or Facebook - Prepare sellable items for distribution to our three shops via the van - Communicate any relevant messages to the van volunteers and/or shop teams - Follow any instructions from the shop teams regarding their stock deliveries - Carry out training regarding sorting and stock preparation Health and Safety: - Ensuring the unit is kept tidy and free from hazards. - Adhere to health and safety procedures for the unit

Skills required: - Good customer service and communication skills - Good organisational skills and able to follow instructions - Work well as part of a team - Basic numeracy and literacy - Reliability and flexibility essential

General: - Be respectful and polite to all donors, volunteers and staff members. - Respect the confidentiality of any information held in relation to past or present patients, carers, staff and other volunteers. - Attend Health & Safety and other training specific to ensure a safe volunteering experience. All training will be provided free of charge. - The organisation is a no-smoking area for staff and volunteers. - Promote the aims and objectives of Hospice at Home West Cumbria. - Maintain confidentiality of any information gained whilst working as a volunteer. - Assist with other roles within the unit as identified by the unit managers
