We are looking for volunteer tutors to help us with our catch up tuition programme for primary and secondary school students.

What will you be doing?

We partner volunteer tutors with pupils to increase their subject knowledge, confidence and study skills. As a volunteer tutor you can have a big impact on the students on our programmes. Our tutors do more than simply set and mark work, they also act as positive role models and raise students’ aspirations. We particularly focus on subjects maths, physics, chemistry and biology.

As a Maths/Science Tutor volunteer, you will
  • Deliver lessons to your students weekly using Numberfit provided resources, focusing on delivering a supportive relationship and inspiring delivery.
  • Working remotely one-to-one with student(s) to help improve their academic ability, develop their confidence and to help them work on their study skills.
  • Acting at all times professionally as a representative of Numberfit.
You will be working with our team lead for Tutoring, who after appropriate checks will be your key contact to support you through your role. You will receive a Tutor induction and DBS check before you start, and ongoing support sessions as your role progresses.

What are we looking for?

  • Teaching/ Tutoring and lesson planning experience
  • Subject knowledge
  • Good level of English language
  • Listening and communication skills
  • Empathy for their students and their feelings towards subjects and exams
  • The ability to work professionally with children
  • Commitment to fulfilling their role as agreed
The volunteer should also have/be
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly understand the needs of their students
  • Can ask key questions to enable us to clarify requirements
  • Open to feedback

Your role as a Tutor will have a big impact on the students on our programmes, and their learning confidence and ability in a key subject. With your help we’ll be able to continue raising the profile of mathematics, enjoyable learning and children’s wellbeing.
