ApplyAsk a questionSave opportunityCarers Connecting SEN High Peak is looking for volunteer facilitators and activity leaders experienced with children and families, to deliver activities for children with special educational needs.What will you be doing?We’re a small friendly and supportive team and since September 2021 we’ve seen demand for the activities we offer grow and grow we’d love to hear from you if you’d be interested in volunteering with us.We’re currently looking for experienced volunteer facilitators to help run our weekly parents and carers support group and other ad hoc activities. The support group takes place every week (including school holidays) on a Wednesday 9.30-11.00 in Buxton. You don’t need to commit to every week; we’re aiming to build up a bank of volunteers to deliver this service. Parents and carers attend along with their children, and we offer them support, conversation, a chance to speak to relevant professionals who also attend, and activities for the childrenCan’t commit to regular volunteering? No problem. We have a range of ad hoc activities coming up which you can volunteer with flexibly, including a new youth group, Christmas events, soft play, and film club.What are we looking for?We’re looking for volunteers who have a passion for supporting children and families with SEN. Ideally you will have experience working with SEN but this is not essential. We’re far more interested in hearing from you as an experienced facilitator, activity leader, mentor, or if you have experience in peer support services or similar. Knowledge of SEN services provided by the NHS or social care sector would be helpful.What difference will you make?You’ll facilitate a safe space for parents and carers to share their experiences with their peers.You’ll liaise with professionals attending the group providing expert advice in aspects of care for children with SEN, and increase your knowledge in this area. Depending on your experience, there’s the chance to deliver talks or workshops to parents yourself.You’ll have the opportunity to volunteer directly with children with SEN and their siblings at our child-facing activities, intended to improve their social and educational outcomes.You’ll be supported by a group of friendly trustees and other volunteers at a time when our organisation is growing rapidly, and be involved as we move to registered charity status.Before you applyPlease let us know your relevant experience, knowledge and skills, and an indication of your availability in your application.
