About Us

The Royal British Legion (RBL)Wiltshire County Committee provides support and direction to 47 RBL Branches across the County, in order to promote and deliver against the RBL charitable objects of providing support and help to serving and former members of the Armed Forces, and their families, and remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. There is no need for our volunteers to have previously served in the Armed Forces, but we do need volunteers who share our passion for supporting the Armed Forces community, to help us deliver effectively against our objects.

The Role

We have a vacancy for a Volunteer County Publicity Coordinator to:

· Set the RBL Wiltshire County publicity strategy.

· Implement publicity campaigns across social media and using printed advertising material.

· Support internal and external communication campaigns to effectively distribute key information.

The Volunteer County Publicity Coordinator is the main point of contact for advice on and the promoting and publicising of the RBL in Wiltshire. The role will work with:

· The Volunteer County Events Coordinator to align events and publicity.

· The Volunteer County Recruiting Coordinator to support recruitment and retention campaigns at the County level.

· The Volunteer County Website Editor to liaise over website content.

The role is ideally suited to someone with a background in marketing, public relations or advertising.

The Volunteer County Publicity Coordinator will advise the County Committee on publicity strategy, the planned publicity campaigns and the results of those campaigns and will be supported by other members of the Committee.

In terms of commitment, the role is expected to take up around 2-4 hours per week, with the Committee meeting 4 times per year in Corsham, attendance can be either in person or virtually.

This position is voluntary and unpaid, although all travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Role Requirements

1. Provide input to the County Plan regarding publicity.

2. Prepare an annual publicity budget for approval by the County committee.

3. Identify best practice used by Branches within the County and submit recommendations to the County Committee.

4. Identify individuals from Branches within the County who have the potential to become Publicity Advisors.

5. Advise Branches on the best approaches to local level publicity.

Desirable Skills and Experience

1. Possess good basic I.T. skills and be able to access the MS SharePoint and use MS 365, use email and be familiar with social media platforms that the Legion, County and Branches may use.

2. Prepared to become conversant and compliant with the current Royal Charter, relevant areas of the Membership Management Handbook and relevant policies and procedures.

3. Prepared to actively promote the Legion vision, values and code of behaviour for working together.
