The aim for the community project volunteer is to support our Grow Outside gardening and crafts project, that runs on Thursdays, based at The Croft, Ripley (DE5 3HF).This role assists in planning and contributing to a range of woodwork projects, particularly making and upcycling items of garden furniture, largely from recycled materials. We have opportunities for volunteers to get involved at any level, from helping to prepare materials, to sharing skills with new group members. Volunteers will also provide friendship, support and encouragement to individuals including children under the age of 18 and vulnerable adults, who may be lonely, isolated or lacking in confidence.

No formal experience is necessary and relevant health and safety training will be given. We welcome people of all ages and abilities to apply for this role, but the minimum age requirement is 18 years. Outline of activities and requirements:  To help in the workshop with a range of activities, e.g. sorting/preparing wood to be reused.  Planning and leading activities to produce items using a range of joinery skills, such as: cutting wood to size, drilling, fixing and assembling, sanding and planing wood, and finishing.  To help to develop the project and work with group members to bring new ideas to life, creating items such as garden planters, plant supports, repairing benches, and other making garden furniture from reclaimed timber.  To assist others in woodwork/upcycling activities  To ensure tools are used properly used (to high health and safety standards) and collected, cleaned and tidied away at the end of a session  To welcome visitors to the project  To enjoy being part of a team and be happy to lead activities

Training will provided and all volunteers will be asked to complete a DBS check before they volunteer with us.
