ApplyAsk a questionSave opportunityWicked Weather Watch is a climate change education charity that is seeking a passionate communicator to write blogs, articles, and updates on the website to keep funders, the public, and our supporters up to date on our charitable work. What will you be doing?Wicked Weather Watch aims to teach primary students about the climate crisis in a fun and optimistic way while inspiring them to take action in their lives and at school. We do this by giving workshops to local and national schools, giving teacher training, providing talks, and creating resources for schools to take climate action. We are looking for an applicant that is eloquent, a good communicator, and can quickly write short articles and blogs to post on our website. The right applicant will be good at managing their own time, aware of the global impacts of climate change, and researching the latest news on primary school education and climate change. We want to keep our website up to date with regular blogs discussing the current news, the work WWW has done recently, our goals for the future, and how our supporters can get involved. It will be the volunteer’s responsibility to come up with new and fresh ideas of what to write about each week, with guidance and support from the WWW Project Manager. The applicant will be required to write at least one piece per week, whether that is a blog post, an update to funders/public, or an article for a partner organisation on behalf of WWW.The volunteer will be a part of our small WWW team, including working with other volunteers and being managed by the Project Manager. The applicant must be able to collaborate with others effectively. We are seeking someone who is highly organised, good at keeping their own time, has experience writing articles and/or content creation, and has a passion or interest in climate change education. The applicant must be able to bring fresh ideas into our campaigns and posts. What are we looking for?We expect the Climate Change Communicator volunteer to have good writing skills, the ability to accurately research and then synthesize climate change data and facts to be more digestible for the average reader, and good time management to meet writing deadlines. We expect the volunteer to have knowledge of climate change and the education system. An interest or skillset in marketing or public relations is not necessary, but helpful to have. We ask that the Climate Change Communicator volunteer writes at least one article/blog post per week, and comes up with fresh ideas to write about for each post. You may be given specific topics to write about throughout the year, for example, how we spent a particular grant. There will be busier times of the year and less-busy times (ex. summertime). The volunteer is welcome to organise their time how they wish throughout the week, as long as blog posts are drafted, reviewed, and posted on time. What difference will you make?We are a small team, with only one full-time employee and a small family of volunteers. We need someone to help show we are active on our website, contribute to discussions on climate change and education in the UK, and promote WWW on other websites/social media platforms through these posts. With the increased promotion of our charitable work, we can reach more young people and turn their eco-anxiety into climate action. We have lots of school requests from all over the UK, but less than we would like within our local area. The applicant will help us increase local engagement by potentially working with local media and promoting WWW’s work in the southwest region. The volunteer’s help and expertise will enable us to adapt and survive, to scope new possibilities, activities, and ways of working. Before you applyPlease provide a cover letter detailing why you are interested in this role and your relevant experience.
