East Durham Trust delivers a range of free school holiday activities accessible to families in the East Durham area with the provision of food. The role of the classroom assistant will entail supporting the tutor during the session with the preparation of resources, supporting the adults with completion of paperwork where required, encouraging and supporting adults and children of varying ages to participate in activities, and some general housekeeping duties of assisting with tidying up the classroom after the activity completion. About East Durham Trust and the project East Durham Trust is a long established charity with the objective of addressing the social and economic needs of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in a number of former mining communities. The project is funded by Durham County Council and focuses on providing adults with accessing learning within their community. These free sessions are attended by adults and children. The project sets out to tackle social inequality and confidence building to enable families to participate in educational activities whilst receiving nutritious meals. The courses available under this project are; art and crafts, gardening and multi-sports games.

  • Available during the upcoming school holidays (February half term, Easter half term, May half term and summer holidays - all activities end by 5pm) What activities could I be involved in?
  • Supporting tutor with the preparation of the venue for the session
  • Under supervision of course tutor, assisting adults and children with practical sessions
  • Assisting learners with completion of paperwork
  • Assisting tutor with set up of refreshments
  • Supporting with the tidying up of the classroom after the session
All sessions last for a maximum of 4 hours, depending on the type of activity. Sessions will be running on various days of the week across East Durham during the upcoming school holidays. All sessions are timetabled between 9am and 5pm. We require you to be available for the duration of the session you will be assisting with. The volunteer decides the number of hours they have available to commit.
