We are a young, dynamic and unique Scottish-based social enterprise that combines a bespoke care service with a highly regarded community-based befriending service.

What will you be doing?

Our care service, called ‘The No.1 Care Agency’ offers 24-hour care to adults and aims to promote confidence and independence. We provide respite breaks and live-in care at home for adults of all ages with illnesses and conditions that include dementia, Parkinson’s, stroke, physical disabilities and learning difficulties.

The No.1 Befriending Agency, the befriending side of our operation, matches volunteers with lonely and isolated older adults to offer befriending both on the telephone and face-to-face in the befriendee’s home. We also organise group events called ’Cup of Friendship’ across various locations in Glasgow. These events are geared towards people who otherwise couldn’t experience going out and enables them to meet others, and engage in a range of activities throughout the year.

Currently, the organisation is going through a very exciting period of transition and growth. We are seeking a new board member to support us during this time, ideally with a background and expertise in social care.

Time commitment 4 board meetings per year and volunteering remotely on any project(s) undertaken as part of the skills and expertise you can offer.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking people with experience in the field of social care, voluntary sector, and an affinity with the values of the organisation Compassion, Courage, Happiness, Respect, Independence.

What difference will you make?

The organisation faces several challenges to grow and develop, work towards sustainability and meet the increasing demand for its services. The demand for the services far outreaches our capacity. To expand the services we need to increase the income via our care services and diversity of income streams, continue to identify potential funding opportunities and make funding applications. With a small staff team, most working part time, additional skilled and experienced volunteer support is necessary to provide advice and guidance, to ensure informed decision making; offer innovative ideas and expertise .

What’s in it for the volunteer?

This is an opportunity to lend your skills to support an organisation that is changing and growing to reach people who are socially isolated and lonely to provide them with the support we can provide to help them be connected. Feedback from existing volunteers is that they gain so much in terms of personal satisfaction, working with the staff and volunteers with a strong team spirit and demonstrating the values and ethos of the organisation on a daily basis. Working with individuals and within communities to tackle loneliness and isolation, providing a connection for people to assist them to become active regain confidence and independence is very worthwhile.
