Our volunteer Activities Assistants play a vital role in ensuring our residents get the most out of life. All of our homes run activity programmes doing everything from bingo to film nights, sing-a-longs to baking, memory cafes to ‘virtual cruising’. Our Activity Assistants help make the magic happen. The phrase ‘use it or lose it’ is very true so we ensure every home has a varied mix of activities for mind and body to join in with during the week. Our Activities Assistants are part of our Activities Team, supporting the Activities Co-ordinator to get people involved. You’ll be helping to set up for activities, bringing people to the activity from their rooms and chatting to them to get their ideas for future adventures. Some people need a little encouragement to join in or support to get the most from an activity and that’s where our Activity Assistants step up and shine. You’ll build up relationships with people so ideally, we’d like a regular, longer term commitment of a couple of hours a week. Days and times are flexible; talk to us and we’ll see what suits us both. What you will be doing Having lots of fun! Helping the Activities Co-ordinator to set up for and tidy up after activities Helping the Activities Co-ordinator to record the activities and who has taken part Joining in and encouraging people to take part Talking to people about the activity to get their views on things they’d like to try Possibly leading small groups or supporting one to one activities

If you’re a fun and friendly person who likes to socialise you could be a perfect Activity Assistant. We’re looking for outgoing people who can encourage others to join in and don’t mind looking a bit daft doing so. (There will be crazy costumes and glitter somewhere along the line!) Some of our Activity Assistants run their own sessions, for example a book club. We’ll support you if you have an idea but we’re also equally happy for another pair of enthusiastic hands. The skills you need You’ll be a people person who enjoys the company of older people You’ll be willing to get stuck in and try a new activity You’ll be self-motivated and willing to work independently at times You’ll be able to encourage others to try and include people who might be shy You’ll be good at reading people, picking up signs if someone isn’t themselves You’ll have a sense of fun and be game for a laugh

Minimum Age - 14 Full Induction including Dementia Friends Session Role Specific Training We offer references for our volunteers We reimburse out of pocket expenses Trust us, the feeling you get making someone smile is awesome! Experience in a care setting for your CV. DBS check required but a criminal record won’t necessarily mean you can’t volunteer.
