Our Scout group is growing. We need adults who are keen to try new things and to have fun, to join our team of adults who run our Cub Pack. We call this youth section Cubs and they are great young people who are friendly, fun to be with and eager to try new experiences. We need adults to help us provide these fantastic opportunities to local young people. Our Leaders are normal people just like you, but by working together they make extraordinary things happen! One week you may play volleyball, the next get crafty making puppets, the week after make a structure with spaghetti (yes spaghetti!) - we call this pioneering. What we can guarantee is that no two weeks are the same as the young people do different things each week to earn their badges and awards. We are open to boys and girls from all faiths, backgrounds and abilities and welcome everyone. Located in Weardale with all the amenities of the North Pennines area of Outstanding Natural Beauty all around us this is a small but vibrant Scout Group that is looking to recruit both Scouts, Cubs and adult leaders for both. We enjoy spending about half of our meetings out of doors and have an annual camp for ourselves as well as joining in with district and county events. It isn’t all outdoors though! Our usual meeting point is the church hall in Stanhope where we have access to a large hall suitable for relay races, first aid training, knot tying and semaphore communication! We try and keep the activities diverse and the evenings flowing - the aim is that everyone leaves knowing something new and with a smile on their face! Could you make a difference and help this group get off to a flying start? We meet weekly and are looking for someone to join our team of Leaders so if you can’t be there every week that’s OK, we understand and welcome you when you can come! Perhaps you could help us plan some of our fantastic activities or day trips instead. Whatever time you have to give we can find a role for you that you will find rewarding. Contact us for more information or a non committal chat about how you could help, or visit www.scouts.org.uk

Assistant leaders should expect to get involved in planning evening activities and camps while being supported by more experienced members of the team. No previous experience required! There are online and in person training courses available for all leaders and always support from within the group and wider district community. You need to enjoy working with children and have a good sense of humour. You need to have common sense and be open to learn and have new experiences. You will be required to undertake a DBS disclosure check prior to commencement of the appointment. Training opportunities can lead to recognised qualifications including; OCN Level 2, Providing Voluntary Youth Services and Foundation Degree in Working with Young People.

This role requires a practical person who can work with a team to put on activities, you may have experience of working with young people and the outdoors or you may be looking to gain experience. Scouting offers a great way to build you skills and experience while supporting your local community.
