We are looking for an energetic and driven Senior Communications Engineer with extensive voice and data handling systems expertise to join our rapidly expanding Electronics and Embedded Systems Engineering team for a major UK programme. This role represents a fantastic and rare opportunity to play a leading role in a design team, working on new and exciting project as part of a rapidly expanding organisation.
Responsibilities:
In this role, the successful candidate will be expected to fulfil the following responsibilities:
  • Accountable for the creation of compliant voice and data switching architectures, under the direction of the Lead System Architect and alongside System Engineering Manager.
  • Providing in-depth technical expertise and system design ownership, collaborating with other SMEs.
  • Oversight of a small team of engineers producing detailed specifications, designs and other technical deliverables
  • Managing engineering change to systems, deconflicting priorities as necessary
  • Leading technical interactions with suppliers in conjunction with Supply Chain.
  • Contributing to technical interactions with the customer.
  • Participating in Requirements management, justification and decomposition.
  • Managing interfaces and trade-offs between systems, sub systems and functions.
  • Leading the development, building, test and trialling of solutions.
  • Overseeing the creation of high-quality design documentation.
  • Supporting Operational Engineering teams with in-service systems, troubleshooting technical faults and problem management
  • Participating in Validation, Verification, Test and Acceptance activities.
Qualifications:
  • Degree or equivalent in Telecommunications or Electronic Engineering.
  • HNC/HND with equivalent, relevant experience is valued and welcomed
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards
Essential Skills:
Must have:
  • Experience of voice and data traffic handling and switching systems VCCS (Voice Communications Control System) & ICCS (Integrated Communications Control System)
  • Voice and data comms technologies and protocols such as SIP/RTP, ED-137, serial, IP, TDM.
  • Demonstrable System and solution architecture design and delivery experience.
Desired Skills:
Would ideally have:
  • RF transmission & reception systems
  • Military communications systems experience – Military messaging, crypto
  • Knowledge of UK MoD security (JSP 604), practices and ways of working
  • Software & Hardware integration experience
  • Lifecycle engineering management experience
Experience:
  • Someone for whom collaboration and working in partnership comes naturally. A confident communicator with the ability to negotiate
  • You will also be self-motivated with an energetic attitude, being able to transform complex problems into simple, elegant solution
  • Capable of working across a portfolio of projects and business initiatives often at short notice. Someone who is an instinctive organiser with meticulous attention to detail, and who can motivate others to complete their actions so that the overall objectives are achieved
  • Someone who understands ‘how’ you do things is just as important as ‘what’ you do – who will role model and apply our Principles (see below)
  • A person who is resilient and adaptable, who can navigate ambiguity and complexity and help teams own and deliver day to day
