Role purpose and overview

Launched in 2018, The Telegraph’s Global Health Security channel has grown exponentially to attract a large and growing readership in the UK and across the world. With correspondents in the UK, Africa, and Asia and freelancers across the globe, the channel is dedicated to reporting the multitude of health and development threats we face, their management and solutions.

The Video and Social Media Editor is an integral position in the team whose primary role is to magnify the reach of Global Health Security content via new and established social media channels. You will be adept at quickly re-purposing and promoting existing content for social media as well as creating new and original content of your own. It’s a multimedia role requiring confidence across a wide range of content types including words, images, video and data. At its heart, the role is about reader engagement through innovative storytelling.

Key responsibilities

• Translate content into engaging and innovative social media - TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, FB etc
• Produce weekly TikTok and other short videos, utilising existing team and content
• Build on relationships (internal and external) with key distribution hubs (newsletters, Portal, FlipBoard, Twitter moments etc) to ensure content is as widely promoted as possible
• Monitor progress via hard data, set and achieve targets, reporting regularly
• Produce news stories and features for Global Health Security as required

Key skills

• Able to demonstrate, via qualification or experience, an "evidence based" approach to health/science reporting
• Demonstrable knowledge and experience of social media platforms and other outreach channels (newsletters etc)
• Ability to objectively interpret performance data and have a "data led" mindset
• Experience producing/editing video - at pace
• A passion for and good basic grounding of the subject area
• Masters in journalism or career equivalent
• A collaborative mindset
