The VP of European Public Policy & Government Affairs is a unique position for a passionate, savvy, and experienced advocate to play an integral role in supporting, promoting, and protecting SME’s overall strategy and public affairs interests in the region. The role may be based in London, Brussels, Paris or Berlin) and will be responsible for managing the company’s legislative, regulatory, and policy priorities with U.K./European nations. The candidate must demonstrate collaborative leadership and strategic thinking in order to drive the industry agenda. The role will include significant interaction with the executive leadership team. Understanding the intricacies of a large and complex company and significant experience in global government affairs/public policy, with proven relationship and coalition building skills, are essential. A high level of focus and diligence is a must.

What you’ll do:

  • Foster relationships and coordinate with government officials, policymakers, industry associations, and other key stakeholders to anticipate risks and opportunities, strategically advise, and advocate on behalf of SME. As a result, applicant must be a polished professional with appropriate level of experience and seniority
  • Work closely with SME public policy & government affairs teams based in New York and Washington, D.C., as well as the company’s Corporate Communications team
  • Develop and execute a regional strategy to prioritise advocacy on the company’s most pressing issues
  • Build strong working relationship with country-level MDs, GMs, BA and corporate communication leads
  • Liaise with designated trade and business associations and advocacy groups regarding political, legislative and regulatory issues of importance to the company
  • Monitor progress of legislative and regulatory issues of interest to the company and provide analysis to relevant SME executives.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the long-term implications of decisions and actions on behalf of SME
  • Reports to SME’s EVP, Global Public Policy & Government Relations

Who you are:

  • Proactive problem-solver with sound judgment and maturity, who is business-savvy and can work with company executives to develop policy strategies for addressing anticipated business needs
  • Aptitude for leading and managing associations and stakeholder groups
  • Exhibition of sharp political acumen and well-developed advocacy abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a significant background in verbal and written presentations and public speaking, for both internal and external audiences
  • Superior analytical, organization, and follow-through skills
  • The ideal candidate will bring significant substantive understanding of the industry and have a proven depth and breadth of U.K/European public policy and government affairs expertise
  • Track record of high-quality work and strong, demonstrated results
  • Experience operating effectively in a global environment
  • Impeccable integrity and poise
  • Knowledge of music industry is preferred
  • Must speak English, proficiency in other languages such as French or German desirable
  • Flexibility to work and travel across multiple time zones as required
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, and an advanced degree such as an LL.M. is preferred
