VCU Senior System EngineerLocation:Warwick, Hybrid working.Shift: DaysContract– 6-monthsOutside IR35We are currently recruiting for a VCU Senior Systems Engineerto join our clients Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) to support on international Automotive projects. This is initially a contract role, outside of IR35, offered on a hybrid basis.Role of a VCU Senior Systems EngineerYou will be responsible for System Engineering documentation and functional integration management for Powertrain VCU within the EE Powertrain Electronics Team. This includes the co-ordination of key EV system functionality and working closely with the Powertrain, Calibration, and core internal system engineering teams.Responsibilities Of The VCU Senior Systems Engineer
  • You will provide technical expertise within the VCU team and the wider ePWT team (as VCU is the master controller for most ePWT system functions).
  • You will work to key deliverables within the VCU domain and ensure correct planning, reporting on progress and ensuring on time delivery, working to the highest standards possible. This will involve working across different technical specialisms and adopting new processes and being a point of contact within the VCU area and ePWT. Key specialisms will include:
    • Torque Management
    • Thermal Management (control rather than mechanical)
    • Energy Management and conversion
    • Charging Protocols (e.g., ISO 15118)
    • ISO26262 Processes
  • With support of the VCU Principal Systems Engineer, you will technically manage and interface with 2 key suppliers for SW delivery, tasked to ensure all system engineering documentation is robust and captures all specified requirements and features to enable clear validation planning and root cause analysis. This includes:
    • Product and SW specifications
    • Statements of work
    • DVP creation
    • DFMEA/SFMEA
    • SW implementation plans
  • Validate that the module is compliant to the engineering requirement deck and ensure traceability through to DVP, DVPR and the Gateway process.
  • Support supplier test case creation, coverage and acceptance criteria for the VCU and ensure alignment to the Feature Implementation Planning (FIP) and traceability through the V-Cycle.
  • Support validation and verification activities if needed to analyse test failures and support root cause analysis/issue resolution.
  • Support and manage late change feature implementation and execute vehicle integration, supplier change management, design/implementation timing reviews and update related documentation.
  • Contribute to the development supplier and system DFMEA and SFMEA via various internal and external reviews.
  • This will involve detailed knowledge of Charging System Standards, validation methods and understanding of power electronics lifetime and functional testing, understanding of system testing of the charging sub-system (on Labcar/vehicle etc.).
  • Project manage/design systems, subsystems and components which meet agreed programme targets at lowest Total Cost, continually monitor the cost status versus cost target, and take appropriate action to control, identify and report cost risks and opportunities as soon as they are known.
  • Support in mentoring off-shore resource (India, Romania) to up-skill them in the provision of HV, Powertrain, Chassis and Electrical System Integration skills blended with European experience to Tata Technologies customers.
The ideal VCU Senior Systems Engineer
  • In this role you will need to be comfortable meeting new customers, suppliers, developing relationships and operating within the Global Vehicle Programs and Development group to deliver business.
  • Working internally, you will need to demonstrate best working practices and able to deliver clear written and verbal processes and standards.
  • Technically, you will have experience in SW development, Functional implementation planning and Integration within the Automotive Electrical and Power Electronics systems sector, although other areas of relevant technology development may also be considered.
You will require a good understanding and working knowledge of:
  • Complex electrical / electronic systems integration and the use of advanced technologies.
  • Vehicle controls and Calibration.
  • Powertrain functions and features.
  • HV systems and appropriate legislation for EV charging systems.
  • Working in multi discipline, multi-national engineering teams.
  • Automotive development processes.
  • Conventional, Hybrid and Electric vehicle architectures.
  • On Vehicle EE systems for electrified powertrains.
  • Degree in engineering or related technical discipline, and preferably with a higher qualification, (Master’s Degree or equivalent).
  • Driven to delivering high quality projects, on time and budget, beyond customer expectations.
  • Relevant automotive industry experience, preferably within OEM, Tier 1 or consultancy business.
