VAN DRIVER – LEWES

Background to the Job

Furniture Now, part of Now! Charity Group, collects and distributes household goods via its three stores in Lewes, Hailsham and Eastbourne. Furniture Now! specialises in affordable furniture and electricals, we are seeking to recruit a full-time van driver to assist with the delivery and collection of stock across East Sussex.

Hours of Work37.5 hours a week over 5 days, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm.

LocationFurniture Now, North Street, Lewes, BN7 2PE. Furniture Now! also has premises in Eastbourne and Hailsham which you may be required to work when necessary.

Salary£18,714.00 per annum.

Overall Purpose of the PostThe primary purpose of the role is to support the delivery and collection of furniture and drive one of our 3.5 tonne vehicles (Ford Transit Luton Van) from one of our three stores. You will be supported by a permanent, full-time van assistant and any other additional van staff where required.

You need to have held a full UK licence for at least two years.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Driving a vehicle and collecting and delivering furniture
• Driving 3.5t ‘Luton’ style vehicle
• Collecting and delivering furniture and electricals
• General warehousing and transport duties
• Working with and supporting van assistants
• Demonstrating high levels of customer service
• Completing necessary paperwork and ensuring safe working practices
• Responsible for supporting other transport volunteers
• Being the face of Furniture Now!

General

• Working as a team with other staff and volunteers.
• Work efficiently and effectively to reduce costs.
• Ensure all Health and Safety procedures, including manual handling, vehicle safety and all other good practise is adhered to.
• Undertaking any manual handling as required.
• Attend training and staff meetings as required.
• Be involved in occasional promotional activity.
• Carry out any other reasonable tasks to develop and promote the work of the charity.

Person Specification: Essential Requirements

• Full clean UK driving licence held for over two years.
• Organised and able to work across the county at a variety of locations.
• Excellent timekeeping.
• Commitment to work as part of a team.
• Awareness of health & safety.
• Capable of heavy lifting where mechanical assistance is not possible.
• Basic standard of written and spoken English.
• Basic level of numeracy.
• Desire to learn and understand relevant procedures and processes.
• Communicate effectively with a wide range of staff, customers, and the public.

Desirable Requirements:

• Previous experience delivering or collection household goods
• Working alongside volunteers or the charity sector
• Commitment to reuse and environmental awareness
