We are delighted to be able to advertise a new post in the Emergency Department at PCH: US Senior Clinical Fellow in the Emergency Medicine at PCH. This will be for a year. The Job will be a 20/80 split. 20% of the job plan will be learning to US mentored by Consultants and Associate specialist with keen interest in Point of Care Emergency Medicine Ultrasound. We will be expecting you to attend the following 3 US courses: FICE, Level One US and Chest Ultrasound. These will be funded by the trust. Currently we are using 4 ultrasound machines a Sonosite PX, two G&E Venue Go’s and a Philips Sparq. The remainder 80% will be on a senior clinical fellow rota in the ED.

Main duties of the job

Senior clinical fellow in Emergency Medicine 80%

The ED sees over 62,000 patients a year, with approximately 13,000 paediatric attendances. The department has a 4-bay resuscitation room, and a dedicated paediatric resuscitation bay. The Resuscitation Room utilizes wireless radiography.

The helipad is 50m of the Resuscitation Room entrance, allowing for speedier transfer of critically ill and injured patients.

The ED receives a high volume of trauma patients and critically ill patients from the surrounding area, and is a designated Major Trauma Unit in the Wales’ Major Trauma Network. The Trauma Team is led by the ED Consultant. Complex polytrauma patients are frequently brought to the department from the surrounding road networks or the Brecon Beacons. The management of complex patients is supported by the modern Critical Care Unit which offers 8 beds . Both adult and paediatric patients are accepted to the unit, with paediatric patients being stabilized and retrieved by the regional PICU network.

Ultrasound 20%
