Position Summary
Here at Nestlé UK&I we are recruiting for an experienced Transport Contract Manager to join the team based at our York offices. This is fantastic opportunity to play a lead role in the UK&I logistics function of the world’s largest food and beverage business. Working as part of a well established Transport Leadership Team this role is pivotal to ensuring the success of our logistics operations in an industry that’s ever changing, providing new opportunities and challenges to navigate!
A day in the life of a Transport Contract Manager...
It’s fair to say this is a varied role that will see you work with a wide range of stakeholders both internally and externally to source the best 3rd party haulage suppliers for all our businesses in the UK&I. A key element will be to acquire, develop and manage 3rd party suppliers to deliver a best in class operations whilst ensuring great collaboration in a complex environment. We operate a 24/7 operation, delivering over 5,000 loads of products across the UK&I every week.

Other key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Continually review Nestlé’s 3rd party transport resource to ensure it meets quality, service and costs requirements for the business, including primary transport, backhaul, parcel and tanker operations.
  • Ensure 3rd party haulage providers achieve the desired performance KPI’s whilst achieving economies of scale.
  • Build and develop great working relationships with 3rd party haulage providers to deliver current and future requirements for the business, aspiring to be on the forefront of innovation in the industry.
  • Working closely with procurement and our transport planning team to identify opportunities for improvements and cost savings.
  • Working with our factory network and distribution centres to design, and supply, fit for purpose and flexible shunting and clearance strategies.
  • Have a robust understanding of all the latest road transport legislation and developments to govern Nestlé’s 3rd party suppliers and ensure they are operating to the standards required.
  • Understanding the alternative modes of transport and alternative fuels to support our Net Zero roadmap.
  • Leading a small team to develop their capability, helping them to achieve their career aspirations.
  • Be an ambassador for the Nestlé brand across the haulage industry, showcasing our voice and initiatives across the industry. For example, Logistics UK, RHA etc.
What will make you successful?
To be successful in this role, you’ll have a wealth of logistics experience under your belt and have an in-depth knowledge and network of the UK&I haulage industry. You’ll ideally have worked within a similar role in a large business and have experience of working within a matrix environment, managing conflicting priorities. You’ll be passionate about all things transport and results focused to drive change, improve quality and reduce costs. Acting as an ambassador for the Nestlé brand whilst demonstrating great leadership, coupled with your ability to influence is key. No two days are the same so we need you to be able to flex your style, whilst working in an environment that can often be ambiguous. You’ll also:

  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the latest road transport legislation.
  • Have managed haulage contract negotiations at scale leveraging your expert knowledge to deliver the best outcome for the business.
  • Understand the importance of building great relationships with our 3rd parties to drive service and delivering.
  • Have proven knowledge of both managing performance and driving improvements in performance.
  • Have a continuous improvement mind-set and understand the end to end Supply Chain process to develop innovative new thinking in this space.
  • Demonstrate a pragmatic approach with the ability to operate and execute at pace.
  • Be able to showcase your leadership experience to inspire and develop people, enabling them to be the best that they can be.

Due to the nature of this role you will be expected to travel regularly to sites and haulers.
