The opportunity

We are a small, flexible team from varied backgrounds (Tax, Finance, Resourcing, Recruitment, General Management). We are all focused on issues that affect the business, whilst also partnering 1-2-1 with individual sub service line teams, and we are keen to get out from behind our desks to tackle issues head on and utilize various methods to enable us to do this together. This is a pivotal role within the Operations team, providing opportunities to integrate and liaise fully with one or more of our individual sub service lines whilst also offering the opportunity in wider areas of our business.

Your Key Responsibilities

Driving business performance – within the complex/large sub service lines of UK FSO Tax
  • Business Partnering - working with key senior stakeholders from the Partner, Associate Partner and SM group, to provide business insight, challenge, and support in delivery of the financial results across UK FSO Tax.
  • Improving Business forecasting, the timely conversion of activity to chargeable revenues, financial planning, and supporting the drive to ensure our teams maximise their time in the market and on client chargeable engagements.
  • Identify and drive strategic and business improvement initiatives, resolving any complex challenges and ensuring the changes implemented are sustained, whilst also updating leadership on performance and agreeing actions.

Technical expertise
  • Ad hoc projects – delivery and management of a varied range of technical projects with defined deadlines and objectives.
  • Technology solutions – partnering with the finance function to provide support and insight to the business and Tax leadership in the interplay of technology solutions and the financial impact on the P&L.

Transformational change in Operating Model and Systems
  • Management and implementation of review and delivery of transformational change in the operating model of the business, leveraging existing and building new relationships with our offshore centres.
  • Adopting standardised business processes and introducing new ways of working; transforming the way we operate our business and allowing us to operate more effectively as a global organisation.

Supporting the growth and influence of Operations
  • Working with the wider Operations team in taking the next steps to evolve our support structure to identify key growth areas and opportunities across our portfolio.

Skills And Attributes For Success
  • Strong analytical skills with high degree of accuracy and detail conscious.
  • Ability to support and coach junior members of the team.
  • Demonstrable good project management and time management skills – balance multiple priorities by considering importance, level of urgency and other dependencies.
  • Proficient with computer skills including basic business software (Power BI, Word, Power Point, Advanced Excel, Outlook, and Explorer) and able to pick up new systems quickly.
  • Able to work largely on own initiative and be proactive in developing and building knowledge.
  • A strong team player with effective team communication skills and ability to build good team relationships across numerous locations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead and manage junior resource both locally and internationally.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to challenge and understand the wider implications of business decisions.
  • Flexible in approach and enthusiastic.
  • Ability to thrive when there can be shifting deadlines and complex stakeholders to work with.
  • Ability to work in a diverse organisation and influence and lead - where you do not necessarily own the resources directly.
  • A proactive and positive individual, who is a strong team player with the ability to communicate confidently and use their initiative when problem-solving.
  • A person who can manage high volumes in a fast-paced environment, adapt well to change and understand risk to the firm, is perfect for this role.
  • Numerate as a significant part of the role requires working with figures.

Ideally, you’ll also have

An understanding/ familiarity with the processes and reporting within EY.
