Seatronics, part of Acteon Group, supplies specialist subsea solutions pursuing excellence both in engineering capability and customer support. Our continually developing expertise allows us to provide full service capability on demand encompassing rental, sales, service and repair, calibration, personnel and asset management.

Seatronics UK are currently looking for a Financial Controller to join the team on a full time permanent basis. This role will be directly responsible for the UK Seatronics entity (including the UAE branch) as well as overseeing the finance function for the UK entity of J2 Subsea. Both Seatronics and J2 Subsea form part of Acteon’s Electronics & Tooling segment.

The successful candidate will perform professional accounting work involving compilation, review, and analysis of financial data. You will also manage the ledgers and preparation of journal entries, fixed asset and inventory accounting, preparation of trial balance and financial statements, job cost accounting and Balance Sheet reconciliations.

Oversight and mentoring of the UK finance team comprising six employees is also within your remit. You will also have responsibility for supporting the preparation of annual budgets as well as monthly forecasts. This role also involves the control of payroll and management of HR data in line with Group HR requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • To work with base managers to manage the company’s budget including revenue/direct margin, EBITDA or CAPEX level and drives the yearly budget exercise and monthly forecast with line management.
  • To work with the Finance Director to report variances of revenue, OPEX, direct margin or investment/contract and to provide an accurate financial position with identification of risk and opportunity.
  • To provide data to the Finance Director to allow analysis and recommendations including investment or profitability for potential opportunities and projects (e.g. infrastructure, new products, promotions) and select those that support the company’s strategy and optimize its commercial position.
  • Support the Finance Director to develop financial plans, organise product structure in a business logic way and support/advise in decision making, investment and customer offers.
  • Initiate, coordinate and track financial process and systems improvements and ensure compliance with financial standards and best practices.
  • To assist with the management of budgeting, financial planning, control, and reporting policies and practices.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the general ledger and related accounting practices, including payables, receivables, inventories, fixed assets, and payroll are complete.
  • Contribute to the preparation of cost reports, trial balances, balance sheets, profit-and-loss statements and cash flow reports.
  • Prepare appropriate commentary or explanations relating to items of particular interest and conduct any pertinent investigation of the accounts.
  • To assist with ensuring compliance of the organization’s practices with applicable legislation and tax authorities.
  • To ensure monthly financial reporting packs are submitted to Acteon Head Office within monthly reporting deadlines as set by the Finance Director.
  • To manage and motivate subordinate staff; review and assesses performance, build employee capacity, support their professional development and enable employees to optimize their contribution to the department.
  • Prepare for and coordinate annual audits.
  • Collate, check and prepare inputs for monthly payroll and pensions including overtime collation
  • Run assessment for auto-enrolment pension and submit contributions to the pension provider
  • Assist with payroll year end checks
  • Prepare annual P11Ds
  • Check and report monthly to Norwegian tax authorities regarding personnel activity in Norway

Required

  • Ideally possess a degree or equivalent in relevant field
  • Qualified Accountant or working towards full qualification (CA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in financial management including managing a finance department
  • Experience of working with a wide range of finance and non-finance colleagues, including overseas offices
  • Experience in the management and mentoring of a diverse range of staff.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of global financial reporting requirements
  • Ability to apply accepted accounting techniques and standard practices to the classification and recording of financial transactions.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel
  • Working knowledge of Jet reports as well as computerised accounting packages, preferably Navision
  • Strong people management skills with the ability to train staff at varying levels
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail with well developed analytical skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
