Job Title: UK Financial Controller

Division: Proclad (UK) Group

Reporting to: UK Managing Director

Hours of Work: Full-time: Monday to Thursday 8am-4.30pm, Friday 8am–1pm (some flexibility required)

Proclad UK Group are an international group of engineering companies based in the Fife area of Scotland offering specialist products and services to the Oil & Gas, Defence, Nuclear and Renewables sectors. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Financial Controller to join our team and support senior management with the visionary objectives of the group. A full driving licence is essential as the role involves some travel to our sites within Scotland. The role demands accuracy, diligence, resilience and would suit a self-motivated individual.


Key Duties and Responsibilities (not restricted to)

  • Responsibility for the management of the UK Finance team.
  • Responsibility for the UK Group IT function including the direct reporting of an IT Manager.
  • Supporting the Managing Director and senior management team with business and financial ideas to drive growth and improve profitability.
  • The preparation of timely management and legislative reporting for the six UK businesses including Monthly Management Accounts, Annual Budgets, Annual Statutory Accounts and tax computations.
  • Ensure the integrity of the Balance Sheet for all UK companies.
  • Preparation of UK accounts for consolidation purposes.
  • UK Treasury management of foreign currency
  • Attendance of the monthly Finance Meetings & Management Meetings.
  • Preparation and submission of accounting packs to the Group for consolidation.
  • Responsibility for the preparation of five-year plans for the UK companies.
  • Responsibility for annual audits.
  • Main point of contact for all UK Banking, Insurance Brokers, Legal Advisors and Tax & Audit advisors.
  • Support the Group Chief Financial Officer with the Group wide development of the Finance functions and processes across the business.
  • Developmaintain accounting policies required by the UK businesses.
  • Appraisal of capital expenditure plans.
  • Responsibility of the management of working capital through stringent reviews of debtors, creditors and inventory.
  • Ensure all staff appraisals are carried out to plan and carry out monthly/quarterly performance reviews.
  • To lead the development of the UK Group ERP system.
  • To lead the HR department with their development in supporting the UK Businesses.
  • Support UK Managing Director with ad-hoc tasks.
  • Highlight any areas of risk & opportunity to the UK Managing Director.


The ideal candidate will demonstrate/possess:

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiasm and hands on approach to getting the job done.
  • Sound theoretical and technical accounting knowledge.
  • Be numerate with excellent spreadsheet and IT skills.
  • Be able to prioritise & work on their own initiative.
  • Able to meet working deadlines and able to multi-task.
  • An ability to manage staff to ensure departmental and staff objectives are met.
  • Ensure on-going development of staff.
  • Commercially aware, possess strong negotiating, relationship building and influencing skills.
  • Willingness to take ownership of problems and solutions focused.
  • Demonstrate a desire for continuous learning and development to support the role and the business needs.


Essential requirements

  • Professionally Qualified Accountant (CA, CIMA or ACCA)
  • 5 Years post qualified experience.
  • Experience in FRS and IFRS accounting standards.
  • Experience in cash management and banking relations.
  • Understanding of UK legislative & Statutory regulator reporting requirements.
  • Leading and overseeing the annual audit process.

Desirable but not essential requirements

  • University Degree in Accounting & Finance or related degree.
  • Experience in management and development of staff.
  • R&D tax knowledge.
  • General commercial experience.
  • Previous experience in a contract/project environment.
  • Experience of project accounting and cost accounting.
  • Experience of business start-up and acquisition.
  • Experience in raising sources of investment funding.
