The Trust is looking to recruit Trust Clinical Fellows to take part in a Medicine rotation of 2 x 6 months Medicine Rotations.

These Include
  • Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU)
  • General Internal Medicine
  • Acute Frailty, Geriatrics and Rehabilitation Medicine.
The positions are a fixed term from August 2021 (subject to completing pre-employment clearances) until August 2022.

Due to extensive growth within our faculty we are currently recruiting for a number of Trust Grade Clinical Fellows working at the equivalent of the Senior House Officer grade, to join the Princess Royal University Hospital (BR6 8ND) based across the main site and sister Orpington Hospital (BR6 9JU). Successful individuals will undertake up to a rotational programme commencing from August 2021 but there is an opportunity for individuals to start slightly later depending on the specialty offered. This will give individuals the opportunity to complete two rotations of six months. This gives you an amazing opportunity to take the foundation medical experience gained into an environment where you can see a more specialist service in a bit more detail.

Medicine at the Princess Royal University Hospital supports the Acute and Ambulatory care services as well as core general and speciality medicine. A large proportion of our patients are acutely unwell and/or frail and elderly. The experience gained in supporting and managing these complex cases would give an amazing opportunity for individuals to broaden their experience ready for that next step in their development.

The post holder will have the opportunity to rotate through the different teams, including Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU), General Internal Medicine, Acute Frailty, Geriatrics and Rehabilitation Medicine. Individuals will get the chance to work on the acute medical take focusing on managing acutely unwell patients within the first 48 hours of admission, as well as then providing continued care if the patient requires a hospital stay of longer than 48 hours when they are transferred to the speciality wards.

This post would be suitable for any trainee who has, or are on course to, successfully complete a 2-year Foundation School programme or has achieved equivalent competencies who will join at a Junior Clinical Fellow level. Ideally trainees will have an up-to-date certification for Adult Life Support training, or be able to fulfil the necessary qualification upon appointment.

Although this appointment is not accredited for training through HEE, the appointee will be expected to participate fully in the educational and training programmes within each department and the hospital. The appointee will have a named clinical/ education supervisor. Annual leave and study leave is commensurate with other post foundation doctors.

The experience and opportunities offered would be excellent experience for applicants planning a career in medicine.

Please note if you are interested in the role for the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit no previous Stroke experience required, as this will be provided and supported by consultants in the department.

Previous post holders have been successful in gaining entry to training programmes upon completion as well as completing their Royal College exams.
