Do you want to work for the most exciting media company in the business, covering the best country in the world? The dailyrecord.co.uk is already the largest news website in Scotland with a huge audience but we want to get even bigger.

We have ambitious plans for growth and are now looking for an experienced Trends Editor to join our award-winning editorial team. You will lead a team of trends writers covering the hottest topics in the news or on social media, covering a varied range of subjects from viral news to shopping, current affairs to must-see television - and delivering that content to a wider audience while retaining high standards of digital storytelling.

We are looking for candidates with strong management skills, and the ability to help young journalists develop. Candidates must have excellent storytelling techniques, superb social media skills and knowledge of SEO and Google Trends, as well as a deep understanding of how to make content engaging.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a small editorial team to achieve digital audience growth and engagement targets
  • Work with the larger editorial team to create engaging content tailored to a digital audience
  • Ensure that resources at all levels in the newsroom are clearly focused and managed as effectively as possible to deliver digital targets
  • Create an environment that encourages new ideas for digital content that will drive audience growth and engagement
  • Responsible for delivering registered users strategy
  • Ensure that enhanced planning processes are thoroughly embedded in the newsroom and enable us to drive audience growth and commercial performance
  • Ensure effective use of social media tools by newsroom staff
  • Act as brand champion of our news brands
  • Play an ambassadorial role for the brand and the business as a whole, in person and via social media
  • Support executive management in the delivery of overall strategy
  • Provide support and guidance for other senior editorial managers within the region to achieve business goals.
  • Take accountability for the fair and consistent application of all our people policies, procedures and processes.
  • Foster a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations and having in-the-moment performance discussions.
  • Develop a culture of trust, where people are safe to speak up, clear on their role in the team’s success and empowered to be their best at work.
  • Reward and recognise great performance, celebrating people’s achievements and successes.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Demonstrable experience as a content editor
  • Experience as a manager and leader of a newsroom
  • Strong news sense
  • Proven first-class digital publishing skills
  • In-depth knowledge of headline writing for search and social and experience from having driven audience in that way
  • Experience in building a news brand
