This is a long term, substantive position with our business based at our Scunthorpe site.

What you need to know about the role
You will support the Transport Manager and the development of a growing fleet of vehicles to move British Steel product and associated backloads. You will be required to plan day to day vehicle operations as well as all associated Transport compliance administration.

You will be able to deputise for the Transport Manager during absence and work with them to develop long term procurement, R&M and profitable operation of the fleet.

Other responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the building and maintaining of strong business relationships with key stakeholders, to drive maximum effectiveness and efficiency of processes. This is key to the success of this role.
  • Foster collaborative relationship with a supplier & customer base, including onboarding and evaluation
  • Assist in procurement (Intensive research) across, Tractor Units, Flat Trailers, Curtain Trailers, Bulk Trailers, Specialist Trailers, Electric Vehicles
  • Manage and book 3rd party Haulage as and when required to supplement outbound Steel movements
  • Daily communication and support to a team of drivers and allocation of workloads
  • Assisting in Vehicle maintenance planning and associated administrative tasks
  • Supporting the Transport Manager in meeting legal compliance (Drivers Hours, Periodic License Checks, Driver Infringements etc)
  • To help manage, audit and review compliance systems to ensure that they are effective.
  • To ensure that relevant changes are notified in accordancewith operator licence requirements.
  • To assist in keeping up to date on relevant changes in standards and legislation.

What we need to know about you
Experience of working within a transport office is desirable, with transport related training such as OLAT ( Operator Licensing Awareness Training), Transport Management CPC or equivalent preferred but not essential as full training can be given for the right candidate.

Finance experience would be beneficial as the role will require some cost comparisons and data analysis throughout.

You will be qualified to GCSE Level 4 (grade C) in English and Maths as a minimum whilst also being computer literate with a good geographical knowledge of the UK being advantageous.
