Job Description

This role is working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 10.00 - 18.00 and 11.00 - 19.00 as required.

Please note, this site will shortly be relocating to Feltham, TW14 0LR.


  • To work with the laboratory team and co-ordinate an organised training programme that ensures that each task covered by trained and competent staff
  • To manage and maintain staff skills training matrix, ensuring that is up to date at all times. To ensure long term sustainable training programme for all new trainees
  • Work with the relevant team leader to plan structured inductions including a review of all aspects of laboratory activities for all new starters and ensure these are adhered to
  • Work closely with the team leaders from each area to ensure a monthly training plan is created with objectives set for their team based on their development needs as well as any business critical needs
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the site training matrix for the whole of laboratory, ensuring this is up to date at all times
  • Ensure all paper training/competency records are completed correctly and retained in the employees personal training record
  • Be able to produce monthly KPI data that shows the required number of competent staff to run each task and a percentage of the actual number
  • Assist with Non-Conforming Work investigations, particularly if they are linked to a training issue
  • Work with the relevant group members in developing new training records and co-ordinate the roll out of this at the site
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement that allows a continual improvement in the lab
  • Ensure that staff are suitably trained and all training documents are suitably maintained including ongoing competency


Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in science (microbiology/chemistry/biology/molecular biology etc.)
  • Understanding of ISO 17025, UKAS, key customer requirements, audit procedures, methods etc
  • Experience of working in a Microbiology food testing laboratory
  • Experience of providing training to employees
  • Competence in IT, including LIMS, spreadsheets and databases
  • Ability to interpret present and explain complex information and train this out to others.
  • Excellent presentation, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational, multi-tasking and time management skills
