be you | be a trainee chef
this role is for people who qualify for the government kickstart scheme . to qualify for the scheme you must currently be claiming universal credit. if you are interested you should initially contact your job coach at the job centre to ask to be put forward for the role

you don't need previous kitchen experience or to have worked with asian food before . the trainee chef role is here to teach you new skills + showcase the career you could have in hospitality

being a trainee chef gives you a perfect opportunity to understand how a commercial kitchen operates. you'll spend time with the wagamama team, shadowing + learning from our experienced chefs. You'll gain an understanding of the ingredients we use and how we put them together. you'll learn the foundations of food safety and health + safety practices, whilst being a part of a team + having fun along the way. You'll learn the uniqueness of the wagamama way

as a wagamama trainee chef, you'll receive

what you'll learn |

  • how to prepare, cook + present wagamama dishes, following our recipes + specifications
  • gain knowledge about our fresh ingredients + the best way to prepare them
  • basic knife skills + how to correctly cut a range of vegetables, fish + meat
  • you'll learn about our four cooking stations | wok, ramen, teppan + fry
  • we'll build you up to have the confidence to work on one of our cooking sections
  • once you've learnt you'll be able to use state-of-art commercial kitchen equipment + cook our famous katsu curry for your family + friends
  • how to set up + clean down sections before + after service
  • you'll learn the foundations of food safety
  • how to keep our kitchens clean, safe + up to a high standard by following our health + safety procedures and cleaning practices
  • how to work as a team + have each other's backs
  • how to communicate with your team + guests
  • brilliant customer service
  • learn how to work in a guest focussed environment
  • develop your functional skills - maths + english

a typical day |

during a typical day you will help with setting up the kitchen ready for service. you'll support chefs by helping with prep + putting our fresh ingredients together. you'll shadow a chef on a section to learn best cooking practices + you will get to eat lots of our brilliant food. You'll work with a range of people from different backgrounds and cultures, we're proud to have a workforce made up o over 110 nationalities!
