At bp, we are now looking for a Terminal Manager, who will be responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operations of the Hamble terminal, including HSSEQ, people, financial control and plant integrity.

About the role:

In more detail, as a Terminal Manager, some of the key accountabilities will be to:
  • Lead the Operations, Marine, Maintenance and Administration terminal teams, including providing mentoring and coaching to team members
  • Understand, prioritise and manage all risks associated with the terminal and ensure terminal activities have appropriate risk assessments
  • Manage key relationships with the H&SE/Environment Agency (together the Competent Authority), local authorities, and critical stakeholders (e.g. third party contractors, market partners and suppliers)
  • Provide sufficient Operational, Engineering and Administration resources to support all terminal operations
  • Ensure there is a competency program for all operational and maintenance roles and that individuals in those roles are competent to undertake their activities
  • Provide on-call cover for emergency response escalation
  • Ensure that meaningful safety observations/conversations (SOC) have been performed by the terminal team, that data has been analysed and actions are put in place to mitigate negative trends
  • Understand and review trends with Process Safety Performance Indicators and ensure continuous improvement
  • Carry out root cause analysis to ensure prioritised mitigating actions are put in place to prevent a recurrence
  • Verify the adequacy of the control of work (COW) process and responsible for closure of any gaps identified
  • Ensure that the Management of Change (MoC) process is followed for all plant, process and people changes within the terminal
  • Ensure HAZOP/PHSSER/LOPA and other studies are undertaken and resourced appropriately from the terminal team
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements associated with the storage and distribution of hydrocarbons including Control of Major Accident Hazards (CoMAH) regulations
  • Lead all inspections by the Competent Authority and ensure any actions arising are prioritised and completed to agreed schedule
  • Support terminal budget control for staff, contractor, maintenance, and general costs

This role is based in the UK - Hamble terminal. Limited travel will be required to other terminals within the European and South Africa network.

Hamble oil terminal imports, stores and exports gasoline, diesel, bioethanol, fatty acid methyl ester and crude oil - imports come into the terminal via ship, pipeline and road; exports are via ship and road.

About you:

You’ll have a degree in a technical field or a strong background in operating fuels terminals.

It would also be essential that you have:
  • Strong technical knowledge in multi-modal terminal operations including marine, pipeline, road loading and tank farm
  • Track record as a strategic team leader in the oil industry or similar regulated environment
  • Proven experience in incident and crisis management
  • Ability to lead agile and/or continuous improvement projects or activities to improve or simplify our business
  • Proven leadership and people management skills – able to inspire, energize, coach, develop, and lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Capable of performing multiple tasks in parallel and act decisively while managing shifting priorities
