Dow is looking for Technician Inspector based at Barry, UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a Qualified Inspector to conduct in-Service Inspection of Miscellaneous Devices in pressure systems and equipment in accordance with GMISS and supplementary to the inspections carried out per UK legislation (PSSR 2000) in accordance with the Written Scheme of Examination and conducted by Plant Integrity.
  • Scope is limited specifically to Miscellaneous devices, defined as Flex hoses, Expansion Joints and Glass & Brittle devices - to assure their integrity and maximize containment and reliability of Barry Site processes.
  • To carry out examination in accordance with the inspection & testing requirements defined in Section 80.0 of the GMISS standard and as detailed in the inspection reports in Appendix B.
  • To accurately record the results of examinations in accordance with GMISS Section 100.
  • To adopt a conscientious and impartial professional approach that demonstrates leadership and quality decision making independent of production requirements.
  • To process examination results in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain status as a “Qualified Person for Visual Inspection of Flex hose, Glass and Brittle devices and Expansion Joints by completing training as defined in Section 20 of the GMISS standard.

Safety, Environmental & Health Performance Standards:

  • Demonstrate a proactive attitude toward safety, health and environmental care. Adhere to all safety, health and environmental policies and standards and programs and comply with regulations. Promote safe working on plant and health and environmental care as top priority.
  • Be proactive with safety suggestions and, as requested by Supervisor, support safety initiatives such as ‘Team Safety’ and ‘Behavior Base Performance (BBP)’. Report incidents, hazards and near misses using the HAZOP system.
Quality
  • Continually strive for improvement in quality of own and group work.
  • Ensure problems raised by audits, colleagues, or customer is made known to Supervisor, recorded and corrective action plans are agreed and completed in timely fashion.
  • Establish at all levels inside and outside site that emphasis on first time quality adherence ensures improved reliability of all equipment.
  • Ensure that, when appropriate, procedures for tools calibration etc are understood and support quality programs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in Manufacturing and Petrochemical industry preferred.
  • HNC qualification in mechanical, material science or metallurgical engineering.
  • All personnel shall be qualified in accordance with the requirements of Dow GMISS Section 20.0 for Flex hoses, Expansion Joints and Glass Devices. Training shall be provided for all personnel to ensure a thorough understanding of inspection requirements, reporting and addressing recommendations & deficiencies.
