Job content

If you can talk credibly to both scientists and business people, you could step into this influential sales role and help a well-respected contract research organisation to build their sales function.

It could be the ideal move for someone who’s already selling a scientific product/service and looking to play a bigger part in shaping sales strategy.

Or you could be a qualified scientist who understands the landscape of biology and medical research and who wants to work in a more dynamic, commercial setting.

Where you fit in

You’ll join Cambridge Research Biochemicals an independent and highly reputed UK producer of antibodies and peptides. The company has been providing technical advice, appraisal, design and manufacture of tailor-made and often complex peptide and antibody tool reagents for over 40 years.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director with a brief to help build the sales function, you’ll become a visible and vital part of their highly technical and committed team.

Your remit is to develop business for our custom peptide and antibody solutions, both with existing customers and new prospects. That starts with working with the MD to agree targets and prepare tactical and time-territory plans to achieve them. From there, you’ll spend much of your time on the road, meeting people face to face: academics, lab managers, procurement specialists, primarily at universities, research institutes and biotech companies.

The more business you secure, the more scope there is to grow. Succeed and you could soon start building your own sales team.

What you can add

Experience in antibodies, peptides, proteins or assay development would be an asset but isn’t essential. To gain credibility with your customers, you’ll almost certainly need a degree in biochemistry, ideally coupled with an MSc or PhD in biology, life science, molecular science or a cancer-related field.

We’re looking for someone who can take the responsibility for stimulating new business off the MD’s desk so you need to be able to work with initiative and independence; your colleagues would recognise you as someone who’s well organised and hard-working.

Clearly, whether you’re in sales already, or a scientific role, you’ll need confident communication skills. You’re determined, and friendly – someone who can bring to life the benefits of the company’s products with integrity and intelligence, whether that’s face to face, in writing, or on a call. You’ll need good antennae too – a key part of your job is to share customer feedback and research to help uncover new opportunities.

Finally, flexibility is a must – you’ll be travelling regularly, anywhere between Scotland and the South of England, overseas to cover Europe, with a view to travel the rest of the world, when life finally returns back to normal.
