Primary Purpose Of The Position

The Technical Manager is responsible for leading, planning and managing the engineering systems and resource to ensure maximum efficiency from all equipment and services by means of autonomous maintenance, preventative maintenance and continuous improvement modifications to equipment and methods.

It is both, a leader and a learner as the Technical Manager is expected to be able to learn and understand the can making process and support the day to day operations of the plant.

The Focus Is On

Being the ambassador of Ball’s culture, driving the right behaviours amongst all plant colleagues.

Leading standardization of the maintenance management process at the plant, working directly with employees on all shifts and implementing change.

Identifying and leading various process improvement assignments and projects through BDA, kaizen, FMEA that yield improved asset reliability, improved throughput and better quality.

Essential Responsible Areas
  • Leads a team of workshop engineers, planning routine maintenance activities, defect handling and improvement projects aligned with plant or department priorities.
  • Planning and execution of all plant engineering projects from the start to completion.
  • Reviews and ensures compliance with all statutory regulations
  • Facilitates problem solving and training sessions on plant or department improvement teams as required; also participates in daily problem-solving activities.
  • Learns and practices Lean tools and techniques (DMAIC, PDCA, root cause analysis, risk assessment/FMEA, kaizen).
  • Collaborates with plant training resource to support the development of engineering staff and ensure their progress is continuously reviewed through 121’s.
  • Required to present, educate, train and facilitate to internal and to external audiences.

Position Requirements
  • Proven leader
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, Science, Supply Chain or equivalent work-related experience
  • Job related experience production shift manager, process improvement or project management experience; manufacturing experience (preferred).
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple projects, perform complex tasks, organize and follow through consistently and work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and oral communication, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Ability to influence behavioural changes in colleagues
  • Willing to take risks, challenge the status quo and work under ambiguous circumstances
  • Intellectually, emotionally and logically capable and confident; has the intelligence and stature to quickly gain credibility and become a trusted advisor.
  • Computer based skills (MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
