As Virgin Money executes its Data Strategy and continues to build a strategic data asset (the data fabric) on AWS we have a position as a Tech Lead – Big Data available.

We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead who has passion for technology and a drive to deliver data led solutions. We need people to help us shape the future of our data landscape, drive forward our data strategy and help deliver our digital banking ambitions using cloud technologies. All of this while keeping the bank safe.

What would my day look like?

As a Technical Lead you’ll be working within an established team to provide direction and leadership. You will be the go-to person for data engineers to guide them in the best way to solve problems centred around data. You will work with an awesome team of Designers, Senior Data Engineers, Data Engineers, Architects, and Analysts to help to promote and implement best practice principles throughout the project lifecycle. Working alongside Delivery Managers you will work on projects that deliver data led solutions for business areas across the bank. Continuous improvement and automation of the DevOps pipeline will also be part of the role, working with the service manager and support team to ensure smooth transition of the deliveries into production. As part of Data Solutions you will be a driving force on our journey to our cloud hosted data platform which is the foundation of our digital bank.

As an engaging individual you will enjoy building relationships and have the gravitas and confidence to work effectively with all levels across the business. You will also need to show a passion for data engineering and a knowledge of big data platforms and large scale data transformation programmes. There Are a Few Essentials You Need To Bring...
  • Experience in data engineering including a background in traditional data warehousing/databases
  • Experience of working in a Cloud environment (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience of Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, MapReduce, HIVE)
  • Solid technical background building data pipelines with an ETL tool
  • Experience of processing large amount of data
  • Solid experience with continuous delivery principles, version control and automated data tests
We’d love you to have...
  • Knowledge of Data Stage, Oracle Warehouse Builder, PL/SQL
  • SQL/NoSQL, Python, Glue, Dynamo DB
