Introduction

BIP Environmental is an Environmental & Waste Management company based in Cheshire, operating a permitted Hazardous Waste Transfer Station. BIP support a wide range of clients in the safe and environmentally responsible disposal of their hazardous waste.

The Technical Assessor role is based at BIP Environmental Ltd, Road Beta, Brooks Lane, Middlewich, Cheshire, CW10 0QF, 40 hours per week, 07:00 to 16:00.

The basic role of Technical Assessor is to conduct desk-based pre-acceptance analysis/screening of enquiries and incoming waste. The Technical Assessor will also be responsible for completing ad-hoc tasks as required by management and in line with personal competency.

Main Tasks & Accountabilities

  • Conducting Pre-Acceptance assessments and screening in accordance with company procedure IMS6.02 (E) Pre-Acceptance.
  • Assess the information given by waste producers to ensure that any material offered for disposal can be properly characterised and confirm suitability for receipt on site, in line with current legislation.
  • Correctly classify materials in accordance with all relevant current legislation and guidance.
  • Create waste profiles in the site’s database to a standard suitable for use in creating legally compliant waste transport documents, for the movement of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and guidance documents that relate to the handling and classification of industrial waste.
  • Provide guidance and support to Commercial Staff and Senior Management regarding the classification, transportation, and handling of industrial waste.
  • All the above tasks must be completed in accordance with BIP’s Integrated Management System and be conducted in compliance to all applicate legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience required

Technical Assessor must be, at minimum, qualified to a HNC in Chemistry (or applicable scientific field).

It is desirable that Technical Assessor have:

  • Previous hazardous waste management experience (>1 year).
  • Detailed knowledge of Guidance on the Classification and Assessment of Waste Technical Guidance WM3 Waste Classification
  • An awareness of Sector Guidance Note S5.06 Guidance for the Recovery and Disposal of Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste.
  • ADR/CDG awareness training
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK as no visa sponsorship will be offered
