This post is for a Band 7 Occupational Health Team Lead and Specialist Practitioner, based at Ysbwty Glan Clwyd, leading a multidisciplinary team comprised of Specialist Nurses, RGNs and administrative staff.

You will have responsibility for site health and safety and be required to support the senior leadership team in the department, acting as their delegate in their absence. The role also requires the post holder to cover for the other Team Leads at Ysbwty Gwynedd and Wrexham Maelor when required.

This role has essential requirements for a SCPHN Occupational Health qualification, ideally on Part 3 of the UK NMC Register, but UK qualified OH Advisors would be considered. It also requires essential experience of Team leadership or management of a multidisciplinary team. Intermediate levels of IT skills are essential to include all Microsoft standard programmes including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and MS Teams as a minimum. Experience with other IT systems is desirable.

This role is based at Glan Clwyd, but requires occasional travel to other BCUHB sites sometimes at short notice and so ability to work across the three sites is essential. This post is Full Time and covers the core operating hours of the department from 08.30-17.30 with flexibility to work within these hours. Attendance at site is required, but hybrid working is possible.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the management of the day to day workload of a regional service, prioritising as dictated by service needs.

Responsible for the supervision and deployment of nursing staff, ensuring appropriate skill mix.

Responsible for monitoring work performance through personal development review for nurses and arranging relevant training / education where identified.

Provide effective leadership through establishing fair and clear relationships with staff, implementation of sound organisational skills,

Ensure health and safety needs are assessed for a safe working environment.

Assist the Occupational Health Manager in the implementation and evaluation of Occupational Health policies, procedures and protocols e.g.

Manage a caseload without direct supervision and ensure client care needs are met

undertake the planning of identified service provision for the occupational health & wellbeing service e.g. setting objectives/ future strategy.

Assist colleagues in the induction process of new Occupational Health staff, training where necessary.

Take responsibility of the occupational health & wellbeing service in the absence of the Head of Occupational Health & Wellbeing.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Manage the day to day workload of a regional service, prioritising as dictated by service needs. Responsible for the supervision and deployment of nursing staff, ensuring appropriate skill mix.

Responsible for the management of staff annual leave, duty rotas and personal issues and informing manager when appropriate.Responsible for monitoring work performance through personal development review for nurses and arranging relevant training / education where identified.

Take a lead role in the recruitment and retention of staff including interviews, processes starters, changes and leavers forms as necessary.

Ensure health and safety needs are assessed for a safe working environment. As a delegated responsibility lead and manage on specific projects / objectives . Assist the Occupational Health Manager in the implementation and evaluation of Occupational Health policies, procedures and protocols

Attend meetings as the delegated service representative providing specialist information and advice on various occupational health & wellbeing issues . Manage complex and sensitive situations by co-ordinating and linking with other relevant multidisciplinary professionals or agencies

Manage a caseload without direct supervision and ensure client care needs are met e.g. co-ordinating and planning care for identified users. Ensure workload is prioritised as dictated by need.

Undertake the planning of identified service provision for the occupational health & wellbeing service e.g. setting objectives/ future strategy.

Assist colleagues in the induction process of new Occupational Health staff, training where necessary. Take responsibility of the occupational health & wellbeing service in the absence of the Head of Occupational Health & Wellbeing. Supervise and deploy nursing staff so that an appropriate skill mix is utilised.

Abide by Professional Registration and legal requirements/health board policies/service user policies relating to practice, provide professional specialist advisory occupational health & wellbeing advice to employees and employers of the health board and external users. Often analyzing situations for employees or managers, interpreting and deciding how the policy can be delivered for individual circumstances.

Essential criteria

  • UK NMC Registered Nurse
  • UK recognised Occupational Health Nursing Qualification

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous management/leadership development
  • Recognised certified training in managing health surveillance programmes to include audiometry, spirometry, HAVS and skin assessments

Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Significant band 6 or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of national documents and strategies and their impact on service delivery
  • Work across various disciplines at all levels in the organisation and all levels of management
  • Working knowledge of current occupational health & wellbeing issues
