The Godolphin and Latymer School is one of the country’s leading independent day schools for girls, located on a six acre site in Hammersmith, London. The School’s facilities are excellent, making it an exciting place to learn and work. The students at Godolphin and Latymer receive unrivalled academic and pastoral support and outstanding examination results are achieved.

Computer Science at GCSE and A level are increasingly popular amongst our students and a fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-qualified Teacher of Computer Science to join a growing department on a permanent and full time or part time basis (minimum FTE 0.6) from 1 September 2022. The post-holder will be required to teach across the school. The ability to teach up to and including GCSE and A Level is essential; the OCR GCSE and A Level Computer Science courses are followed with an increasing number of students opting for these courses hence the expansion of the department. Experience of supporting applications to competitive university courses would be desirable as every year a number of students progress to Computer Science or related degree courses, including Oxbridge.

Computer Science is taught throughout the school in dedicated teaching rooms. In KS3 the emphasis is on developing students’ Computational Thinking skills and exposing them to a variety of coding languages. Students are introduced to coding with Scratch before progressing to Swift and Python as well as using micro-bits. A broader understanding of Computer Science is developed via topics including the Binary Number System, Boolean Logic, Cyber Security and Web Technologies.

Alongside Computer Science in the classroom there is an exciting extra-curricular programme including opportunities to explore coding, cybersecurity and robotics. Both inside and outside of class, students enter competitions including Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge, Perse Team Coding Challenge, Oxford University Computing Challenge, British Informatics Olympiad, First Lego League, First Uk Robotics Challenge.

All staff are expected to contribute to the thriving extra-curricular programme on offer at the School.

The salary will be commensurate with the post and will depend upon qualifications and experience.

Accommodation may be available for new staff in a local six-unit property.

For further information about our school and this role, please visit www.godolphinandlatymer.com. Fully completed application forms must be returned to recruitment@godolphinandlatymer.com by noon on the closing date. Please note that applications must be made on the school’s application form. Neither CVs nor late applications will be accepted.

The closing date for applications is noon on Wednesday 23 February 2022.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and responsibility. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

All staff working in the School during the school day will have contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity. As a teaching member of staff you will be working directly with, and be responsible for, the children that you teach. You are also likely to have contact with other pupils on a regular basis which may include specific pastoral or other responsibilities for pupils whom you do not teach.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
