Teacher of Chemistry (maternity cover)

There are currently six members of staff who teach in the Chemistry Department and two full-time technicians. There is a wealth of experience, all being dedicated to their job and seeking to get the best from the pupils in their classes. All staff also play full roles in the pastoral and co-curricular life of the school, which serves to enhance their role within the classroom. The department meets weekly to discuss departmental and school-wide issues, share good teaching practice and ICT strategies. There are excellent systems in place for health and safety, departmental planning and assessment.

Chemistry is a popular subject in the Sixth Form, having approximately 35 pupils in the Lower Sixth, and 35 in the Upper Sixth. The OCR A syllabus is followed at Key Stage 5. The department contributes significantly to the number of successful Oxbridge applications for the whole College, and has had success in the RSC Olympiad papers.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach throughout the age and ability range. Whatever the level of the teaching, an enthusiasm for the subject and the ability and energy to communicate it effectively are essential. A commitment to enriching the department’s resources and a working knowledge of ICT within the subject are also desirable qualities.
