About the job

Summary

The post holder will be a member of a small team of specialist National Tactical Advisors providing immediate, medium and long term advice into the effective investigation of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking and related criminality.

You will be allocated a geographical area covering approximately a quarter of UK police force areas and other partner agencies. Your role will have a national remit and cover will extend to both advice and potential deployment within and outside the UK.

You will be required to comply with NCA standards and procedures and be responsible for the corporate performance reporting of respective activity.

Job description

As a National Tactical Advisor you will have extensive experience in investigations into serious and organised crime including the use of covert tactics, international investigations, risk identification and management and dealing directly with vulnerable victims and witnesses.

You will be required to engage at the earliest point with SIOs and other seniors to provide clear verbal and written good practice advice against each respective investigation or developing scenario with exemplary knowledge of the full spectrum of Modern Slavery investigatory tactics and associated criminal law.

You will be responsible for developing and leading outreach between NCA assets and internal and external SIOs, NGOs and other multidisciplinary partners; demonstrating impact against the threat as well as the value of the NCA in this unique role.

This is a NCA niche 24/7 capability and the post holder will be part of an on call 24/7 rota (approximately one week per calendar month) providing the immediate advice in such cases out of normal office hours and at weekends.

You will be required to develop and deliver tailored training inputs and presentations nationally and internationally and become a Subject Matter Experts for the NCA.

You will be a proven team player who is able to maintain the unit’s positive reputation throughout law enforcement and other public and third sector partners, and provide support to investigations in time critical situations.

You will already be or quickly become an expert on modern slavery investigations and be able to quickly develop innovative approaches to develop complex investigations, continually sharing your expertise with others in the Unit and more widely.

You will require experience in and a thorough understanding of law enforcement techniques, investigative strategies and intelligence gathering capabilities.

***All NCA officers must hold SC Enhanced upon entry as a minimum. To meet the National Security Vetting requirements for this role you will need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 3 out of the past 5 years. For more information please see the Candidate information Pack***

Responsibilities

As a Modern Slavery Tactical Advisor, you will often be the first point of contact with Police and other Law Enforcement Partners including Gang Masters Labour Abuse Authority; Immigration Enforcement and Border Force, on all matters relating to the exploitation of vulnerable persons.

You will provide initial advice, where triage of a potential recovered victim is required, and more comprehensive support when contacted regarding a more protracted reactive/proactive scenario.

You will provide advice on Victim engagement, management and interview, in order to maximise evidential opportunities and ensure appropriate safeguarding is put into place.

You will assist in the formulation of Investigative, Victim and Forensic Strategies relating to that operational activity.

Tactical Advisors are regularly required to provide both national and more local training deliveries, often tailored to a particular organisation or threat.

Where appropriate qualification is in place or gained, Tactical Advisors do assist in the interview planning and engagement of Victims of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.
