About The Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant and London

Salary: £39,400 - £59,000 depending on skills and experience + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

As SSER’s Climate and Carbon Lead, you will play a central role in supporting the short-, medium- and long-term sustainability strategy for SSER. You will be responsible for creating and implementing a leading approach for the way SSER manages, reports and drives improvements on carbon reduction and climate change issues, with the ultimate goal of supporting SSER reach net zero carbon emissions across its operations as its business growth accelerates. The Climate and Carbon Lead will report directly to SSER’s Head of Sustainability and work closely with colleagues across the business to ensure value is created through net zero credentials and sustainability leadership opportunities.

Some Of Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
  • Creation and implementation of a carbon reduction and net zero strategy, with targets and action plan, for SSER which meets business needs and stakeholder expectations while aligning with the SSE Group’s science-based approach.
  • Working closely with colleagues and key supply chain partners to embed and report on SSER’s carbon, climate and circularity approach and commitments across direct and supply chain activities, helping to achieve of core business objectives such as winning auction bids and securing consents.
  • Delivering a robust plan, processes and practices for improving the quality and quantity of greenhouse gas data captured from SSER’s direct and supply chain activities, including embodied carbon, by utilising external tools and working with key partners.
  • Representing SSER’s interests, experience and leadership in government and industry forums/working groups to support the practical development and implementation of business carbon reduction policies, methodologies, regulatory changes and best practice guidance.
  • Monitoring, recording and analysing the business implications of core legislative obligations, policy developments and best practice approaches which are relevant to carbon, climate and net zero in the jurisdictions SSER operates in.
What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
  • Deep technical knowledge of net zero, carbon, climate science, policy and technology relating to low-carbon infrastructure and assets.
  • Practical experience of successfully developing and implementing a carbon reduction strategy, preferably for a large and complex organisation.
  • Extensive project management experience, with the ability to manage numerous projects at once and work with a wide range of stakeholders, including supply chain partners, peers, technical specialists and communications teams.
  • Evidence of getting things done through collaboration and being a team player who is driven, flexible and supportive of colleagues.
  • A track-record as a great communicator who delivers high-quality outputs and can positively influencing internal and external stakeholders by presenting a compelling business case and complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • The ability to think independently and strategically, with outstanding judgement which enables you to provide sound, practical advice to senior leaders and colleagues across the business.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
