Support Worker who is compassionate, supportive with strong communication skills is required for a well-established mental health charity based in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, West Midlands.

FULL TRAINING PROVIDED

The organisation will provide full training. However, experience supporting people with mental illness or experience providing care and/or support services within another social care setting in either a paid or voluntary capacity would be extremely desirable.

Working as a Support Worker you will join the team at an eight-bed nursing care home for people living with a mental illness, which is led by the charitys mental health nurse.

The home is located within walking distance to local amenities and Stratford-upon-Avon town centre. Service users are encouraged to attend local events and take part in local community life.

How will you make a difference as a Support Worker within the organisation?
  • Provide key worker support to a specified number of individuals, including one to one support and liaison with other mental health agencies on behalf of people who use the services
  • Enable individuals to self-manage their personal and domestic resources and to undertake activities of daily living
  • Develop a rapport with individuals based on respect and honesty, the post holder will at all times work within clear professional boundaries and the charitys Mental Illness Code of Conduct
  • Enable and encourage individuals to find out about local services and facilities within their community and facilitate access to alternative services where specific needs are identified
  • Familiar with individual Care / Recovery Plans and support people who use the services in achieving their goals
  • Carry out all needs assessments, individual safety and support planning within organisational and legislative requirements
  • Work with individuals in developing, reviewing, monitoring and adapting support and safety plans
  • Undertake basic personal care tasks as outlined in the care plan including support with: eating or drinking; toileting (including in relation to menstruation); washing or bathing; dressing; oral care; and the care of skin, hair and nails
  • Prompt and supervise an individual to allow them to carry out personal care activities, where they do not have the capacity or ability to carry out any of these activities without such prompting
  • Liaise with other external agencies, complimentary therapies and community groups on behalf of people who use our services

Candidate Requirements

What are we looking for?
  • Experience of providing support to people with a mental illness; or experience of providing care and/or support services within another social care setting in either a paid or voluntary capacity
  • Knowledge and understanding of recovery principles and embedding the ethos of recovery into your own practice
  • The ability to make a comprehensive assessment of an individuals situation and needs; to develop, implement and review risk management plans and devise support plans to meet these needs
  • QCF Diploma or NVQ level 3 in Care or Certificate in Community Mental Healthcare (or working towards) or an equivalent qualification
