Support Officer

This is a new and exciting joint venture with Spelthorne Borough Council to provide a Housing First initiative. The post-holder will be expected to be co-located between our office and the council office and work collaboratively with the Council’s Rough Sleeper Coordinator. The post holder will have the opportunity to coordinate this service and will hold a client list where they will provide high intensive support under the Housing First principles.

For this position, the successful candidate will require a full driving licence with business insurance, along with an Enhanced DBS check.

Key Responsibilities/ Deliverables

Coordinate the Housing First offer within Spelthorne Borough Council

Assess referrals and engage with prospective clients using a person-centred approach. Key to this role will be liaising with health professionals, other agencies and colleagues as appropriate.

Ensure that prospective and current clients are fully aware of the support available, their financial obligations, rights and responsibilities under their tenancy/occupation arrangements and all related procedures.

Agree and review client Independent Living Plans and Risk Assessments on a regular basis, deliver contracted hours of support to achieve the required outcomes

Flexibly deliver the support identified in an Independent Living Plan through regular person-centred contact as appropriate, taking follow up action and coordinating wraparound support if required from other agencies (for example Adult Social Care, Criminal Justice, Health services) and internal departments

Hold a small caseload of tenants, single people and childless couples, who are identified as most at risk from eviction, and eventually rough sleeping. Provide intensive support with the aim of preventing the eviction from happening and supporting the individuals to sustain their accommodation in the longer term

Forge and maintain links with partner agencies and other key stakeholders as appropriate to ensure that good communication and co-operation is maintained

Report any concerns relating to safeguarding of vulnerable people using the correct procedures, attending case conferences and other meetings as required

Ensure that all relevant documentation and records are completed and submitted in an accurate and timely manner

Handle complaints and representations in accordance with A2Dominion’s policy and undertake any necessary investigations

High level of relationship skills: empathy, mutual acceptance, supportive and constructive challenge; positive expectation for the future

An understanding of the Housing First Model and belief in the values and principles

Work outside of standard office hours, as required, to deliver services, following lone working procedures.

Required Skills
  • Experience of working in a customer-facing role, motivating complex and diverse client groups to sustain housing, health and or work outcomes
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent in Maths and English (Grades A*- C)
  • Ability to work under own initiative
  • Ability to network and build strong relationships with partner agencies, community and key stakeholders
  • Organisations skills, including time management and ability to meet targets
  • Ability to communicate effectively at different levels
  • Ability to use IT packages and management information systems
  • Ability to deal with distressed and aggressive clients
