The Subsea Geotechnical Lead sits within the SSEN Transmission (SSENT) Offshore Delivery Team and is required to support the delivery of the Shetland High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Project and to support the ongoing Project Development and subsequent delivery of future subsea cable installation projects that are currently in the SSENT development pipeline.

The Subsea Geotechnical Lead Is Expected To
  • Lead Subsea Geotechnical activities in support of Subsea Cable Installation, manage subsea geotechnical interfaces and sail as the Employers (Client) Representative during survey and trenching campaigns in support of subsea cable installation projects.
  • Assume the role of the Subsea Geotechnical Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Offshore Delivery Directorate and will act as the key interface with the applicable in internal stakeholders such engineering and marine consenting teams.
  • Lead the development and review of Subsea Geotechnical project documentation associated with Subsea Cable Installation.
  • Provide support as the SME in the development and review of Subsea Geotechnical project documentation associated with Subsea Cable Installation.
  • Apply and adhere to the Safety Management Systems, best practices and the SSE Large Capital Projects Governance processes for all projects whilst ensuring their actions and behaviours are in accordance with the SSE Safety Culture and core leadership values.
What do I need?

For the position of Subsea Geotechnical Lead, we are looking for someone with clear and demonstrable experience and understanding of Subsea Geotechnical requirements associated with Subsea Cable Installation who ideally has knowledge of the SSE company standards, policies and procedures.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
  • Extensive previous subsea geotechnical experience relative to subsea cable installation including having sailed during trenching operations. Note: Similar experience in subsea pipeline and or umbilical installation will be considered.
  • Professional registration as a Chartered Engineer or similar, along with detailed and extensive subsea geotechnical engineering and installation knowledge relative to subsea cable installation.
  • Experience of being personally responsible as a Subsea Geotechnical Engineer or similar supporting the delivery of subsea installation works along with excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to produce a high standard of documentation and reporting.
  • The ability to manage any relative assigned packages of work in relation to Subsea Geotechnical activities in support of Subsea Cable Installation whilst considering any impacts to financial forecast and other programmed activities.
  • An understanding of the Transmission Business and regulated environment that we operate in and will have a background in either the Offshore Transmission industry, offshore or subsea construction and installation, or the Offshore Wind sector on major projects. A strong engineering and construction knowledge relative to subsea installation and offshore operations including applicable HSE and CDM regulations is also essential to this role.
