Your Impact:


We are looking for a Structural Engineer to join our busy and exciting Manchester Studio, who are currently working on some extremely diverse and challenging projects. Some of our exciting key clients include the DFE, DIO and NWR, Advanced Technology Facilities, and the recently won Scape framework.

The Structural Engineer will play a role in providing design leadership and discipline integration of projects delivered by our Cities & Places business. Using technical experience and excellent people skills, the Structural Engineer will manage projects and guide / mentor less experienced structural engineers to produce designs and associated deliverables for projects. The role will provide a client facing role for projects and ensure that Jacobs maintains the highest technical standards, levels of service and quality.

Main Responsibilities

As a member of the regional multi-disciplinary design team, a Structural Engineer plays a crucial role in the delivery of technical solutions, acting in support of the Team Principal, balancing commercial, technical, and mentoring responsibilities.

A Structural Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the delivery of high quality technically excellent solutions and the seamless sharing of information with other discipline teams
  • Representing Jacobs in liaising with clients, architects and other design team members
  • Develop and maintaining excellent client relationships through successful project execution
  • Develop talent by coaching and mentoring less experienced staff and supporting their technical career development aspirations
  • Management of project resources and reporting to the Team Principal
  • Management of engineers within the team with a range of skills and experience
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical and commercial bid proposals.

Communications and Working Relationships

The Structural Engineer will cooperate and work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team members of regional teams across the UK, and with our Global teams for effective Global Integrated Delivery.

Externally a Structural Engineer is expected to work closely with external organisations within a project team and with our clients through all stages of our relationship with them.

Here’s What You’ll Need:


Qualifications

  • A Chartered Engineer, or working towards Chartership, of a relevant professional body.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience in the design and specification of building structures to relevant standards and regulations.
  • Ability to undertake structural inspections and report on material and construction defects.
  • Experience and understanding of multi-disciplinary design processes
  • Ability to lead a mentor team of less experienced engineers within a project,
  • Ability to liaise directly with clients, architects and other design team members
  • Understanding of Information Management and Digital Delivery with the ability to work and deliver solutions within the 3D environment.
  • Ability to aid the commercial success of projects, including delivery within budgeted hours and effective change control management
  • Ability to develop designs to eliminate health and safety risks within the design.
