Key Responsibilities

The in-house Structural Engineer role will initially involve setting up a Structural Engineering Department as well as focussing on the following areas:

Design Development and Project Running:

  • Encourage high-quality structural design throughout the company portfolio.
  • Ensure technical excellence is achieved and design intent is portrayed on site.
  • Progress and promote the company standards through all projects and associated documentation.
  • Deliver projects to a high standard on-site and with integrity and honesty throughout the process.
  • Lead, coordinate and manage medium-scale and complex structural projects and ensure that they are properly resourced.
  • Adhere to statutory regulations at all times.
  • Achieve a profit on all projects.

Client Retention and External Relationships:

  • Implement client-focused strategies to develop better relationships and add further value to the Practice’s service.
  • Manage client expectations and ensure that their best interests are at the forefront of every decision whilst ensuring these do not contradict the RIBA, ARB or Institution of Structural Engineering codes of conduct or result in a negligent act.
  • Protect the company image and ensure our intellectual property is retained and our reputation held high when directly or indirectly representing the practice.
  • Act professionally in all dealings and build strong relationships with clients who may offer repeat business.
  • Promote the company at all times.

Business Development:

  • Close an agreed level of existing and new revenue sources.
  • Work with the management team and Business Support Administrator; reviewing both successful and failed opportunities to establish better practices moving forward.
  • In-Team Support:
  • Provide a good supportive environment for projects to succeed.
  • Aid internal and external team members to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
  • Coach and develop team members to review and consider structural issues from first principles.
  • Report on performance to Directors with honesty and contribute to project reviews.
  • Achieve set tasks within a timely manner and resource each project’s time.
  • Contribute to the development of strategies that promote a high-quality working environment.

Qualifications

M.I.Struct.E accredited by the Institution of Structural Engineers (essential)

Experience

Wide-ranging experience of at least three years (essential)

Civil engineering experience (beneficial)

Ideally looking for an individual who is proficient in Revit

Experience with G Suite applications and industry-relevant applications

General

Mobile and willing to travel (must have own vehicle and driving licence)
