About The Role

Base Location: Aberdeen, Glasgow, Perth, Leeds, Reading, Hampshire, London or Dublin

Salary: £46,100 - £69,100 + performance-related bonus and a range of benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

Reporting to the Head of Strategy and Analysis, you will be responsible for leading on strategy development for the Thermal Business unit including low carbon technologies like CCS and Hydrogen

The Key Duties & Responsibilities Will Be
  • Own the strategy development activities/projects and have clear ownership over deliverables; including the bi-annual strategy review and ongoing ad-hoc strategic studies
  • Co-ordinate required specialist input by working closely with relevant areas including Thermal business units, SSE’s Group Strategy, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability functions.
  • Partner with Group and Business colleagues to support the appointment of external advisors and the defining of the optimal strategy and structure for the business to achieve its goals.
  • Undertaking competitor analysis to understand positioning (current vs future), identifying potential low carbon thermal business development opportunities in UK and beyond that could add value for SSE Thermal.
  • Analysing policy and regulatory environment including new business models under development, with a view to informing thermal strategy.
What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
  • Experience in strategy teams in industry and/or as a strategy consultant.
  • Detailed understanding of wider energy/competitive landscape including policy, commercial, environmental and technical drivers.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess opportunities and business performance.
  • Detailed understanding of strategy development frameworks and execution.
  • Excellent communicator and influencer at all levels. Ability to distil complex ideas and concepts into compelling narrative with clear and engaging visual and oral presentation.
About Our Business

In SSE Thermal, we’re responsible for SSE’s flexible generation, energy-from-waste and energy storage activities, with over 600 direct employees across the UK and Ireland. We are currently constructing the 840MW Keadby 2 CCGT in North Lincolnshire, which is expected to become the cleanest and most efficient gas-fired power station in Europe when completed in 2022. As part of our commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions, we have a core focus on decarbonising our fleet through carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen technology. We are actively developing projects in the Humber and Scotland, which could become the UK’s first CCS-equipped power stations, while also exploring exciting opportunities in low-carbon hydrogen production, generation and storage.
