Storage Engineer

As we embark on an ambitious Digital Transformation, we are investing in our IT infrastructure which is key to developing our learning and research capability as we strive to collaborate across the globe, tackling global issues.

The storage team is focussed on delivering storage space from on-premise and public cloud systems, making it easy and safe for our customers to archive, vault, protect and share data, as well as backing up servers, databases and applications. We currently look after over 10 petabytes of data and forecast this to grow significantly as University Research accelerates.

You will play a proactive part in implementing policy and process standards, service offerings and strategic projects with impacts across the University. You will play a key role in developing and standardising the delivery model and ways of working as we modernise our storage estate.. You will take a leading role in the development of solutions for complex issues and problems, bringing your inspirational approach to raise the quality of services delivered by the team, and deliver a service that is focussed on continual service improvement throughout its provision.

You will utilise skills gained from experience in IT to develop a service that aligns to industry best practice, IT standards and regulatory compliance.

You’ll need to get up to speed quickly and have excellent relationship building skills to work with world-leading academics and professional colleagues. You will balance the requirements of projects and academic colleagues for specialist storage with the need to provide effective, efficient and secure IT.

Please note: This post can be appointed to at University of Leeds grade 6 or grade 7 depending on experience. If the successful candidate is appointed at University of Leeds grade 6 a personal development plan will be put in place. Upon satisfactory completion of this plan the individual will be required to apply for promotion via the University’s promotion process to advance to University of Leeds grade 7.
