SS7 Solution Engineer

Location: Newbury/Brentford

Role Purpose:

Global Cyber Security’s role is to inspire trust and confidence in our customers by enabling secure connectivity. Our purpose is to proactively protect Vodafone & its customers by reducing the risks posed by security threats to Vodafone’s global technology infrastructure and the sensitive data it holds.

In Cyber Prevent, the Cyber Product owners define, and implement, the global Cyber Security & Cyber Prevent platforms, they take responsibility for delivery and operational management of the platform. They work intimately with central Group Technology and Cyber Security teams & globally dispersed local Cyber Security teams to provide a service that ensures the security platforms are: globally consistent; effective and efficient; have the right technical adequacy and coverage. The product owner will work closely with the VRS team to ensure the platform is effectively maintained and funded. They will also work with the design and architecture teams to agree the strategy and roadmap for the platforms.

The Product Owner is ultimately responsible for the technical competence of the cyber security platforms. They will work alongside the wider team to ensure that the rules are maintained and all alerts are logged and appropriate investigations and follow up is undertaken. Working with our VRS colleagues they will support the investigation of any malicious activity detected.

The Cyber Security Complex Engineer will be required to operate effectively in a complex, dynamic, and constantly changing environment. Active & compelling engagement of teams and stakeholders will be crucial in creating the momentum required. This requires a leader who is technically competent, an effective communicator and collaborator to deliver the consistency & risk reduction outcomes required. A close relationship and collaboration with the Secure By Design (SBD) team will be needed to guide the technical strategy and roadmap.

What you will Do

• 
  Working with the Cyber Prevent Domain Leadership team to define, and implement Vodafone’s Cyber strategy.
• Support the development of a set global platform plans and their execution of these plans through virtual & matrixed operational teams.
• Work in collaboration with the SBD team that defines and leads the platform technical strategy and roadmap.
• Act as Vodafone’s SS7 and Diameter technical experts. They will use their personal experience and judgement to be able to quickly determine the right treatment for their cyber security platforms.
• Working with the Domain leads and fellow Solution Engineers to ensure that all the cyber security platforms within the domains are: globally consistent; effective and efficient; have the right technical adequacy and coverage; and are delivering the optimum risk reduction effect
• Proactive identification though KPI of technical improvement programmes
• Liaise with Cyber Security Demand to ensure that Platform business demands, projects and risk reduction activities are optimally scheduled and resourced.
• Acting as an ambassadors and role models for Global Cyber Security advocating for security best practice, consistency in approach.

• 
  Reduction in domain risk position. Measured by CSB evaluation.
• Platform KPI/KRI. Operational performance and risk reduction. Demonstrated through fully effective Cyber Prevent operational reporting.
• Platform operational demand vs capacity at optimal level (scheduled and resourced) in order meet business demands, projects and risk reduction activities.
• Effective maintenance of platform operational asset inventory, warranties, licences, capacity and failover plans and documentation.
• Platform budget reporting within agreed contingency parameters.
• Plarform service quality and continual service improvement. Demonstrated at quarterly platform service management reviews.
• Effective and consistent engagement, communications, and reporting for the Cyber Security Leadership Team
• Positive relationships with stakeholders, measured by quarterly feedback reviews and annual maturity assessment of Cyber Prevent functions.

Who you are

• 
  5+ years of experience of the SS7 and Diameter in a technical role as Consultant, Designer or Architect
• Vendor management experience.
• Agile delivery using Scrum or Kanban methodologies
• Degree educated (or equivalent) in a relevant subject

Able to demonstrate experience of:

• Professional operational experience in Voice Operations and SS7/Diameter technology
• Knowledge of cyber security operations in a complex & dynamic technology environment.
• Personal experience and judgement to be able to quickly determine the right operational treatment of cyber security platforms.
• Strong analytical skills to inform effective data driven decisions on service improvement & risk reduction
• Effective collaboration across globally dispersed teams in order to deliver the consistency, and risk reduction, outcomes required.
• Active & compelling engagement of people and stakeholders, across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, up to and including Cyber Security Leadership Team level
• Communicating & reporting concise summaries of complex scenarios & information across diverse and senior stakeholder groups.
