Are you an outstanding Specialty or Associate Specialist Doctor looking for your next challenge in psychiatry – and a competitive salary?With us, you’ll have the opportunity to progress your career to Consultant level through our prestigious CESR programme.We have an opportunity for a Specialty Doctor to shape services at Cygnet Hospital Churchill – while being fully supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist and first-class multidisciplinary team.This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday between 9am-5pm, including 1:5 on-calls.The post holder will participate in the ‘duty doctor’ on-call rota (1:5) at the hospital i.e. 5 week day on-calls (5 pm – 9 am) and 2 week end day on-calls (9 am – 9 am) i.e. 7 on-calls over a 5 weeks period. Supervision for on-call related issues will take place with Juniper ward Consultant (monthly Clinical Supervision) and / or Medical Director at the monthly Medical Advisory Committee meeting.Cygnet Hospital Churchill, with a Good CQC overall rating and located in South / Central London, is a 57 bed inpatient mental health hospital for men. Cygnet Churchill has four wards including an emergency acute admissions service (Juniper Ward) and three high dependency inpatient rehabilitation services (Elm Court, Maple Court and Mulberry Court).This role will be based on Juniper Ward, our 17 bedded male acute service. - Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
- Participate in weekly ward rounds & attend multidisciplinary meetings
- Attend Care Programme Approach & Section 117 meetings & mental health review tribunals
- Provide up-to-date clinical information at all meetings
- Ensure that medical decisions are implemented as planned
- Audit medical services & ensure compliance with GMC & other professional guidelines
- Uphold policies & procedures and contribute to service governance & development
- Salary up to £90,000 (depending on experience)

- Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
- Approved under S12 or able to achieve with 3 months of appointment & a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent
- Experienced at senior level in General Adult inpatient psychiatry
- Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- In-depth knowledge of the English Mental Health Legislation and Mental Capacity Legislation
- An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement & ability to manage risk
- A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
